Default what is the vintage Martin Shawn Mendes has that inspired his new custom line?

I keep seeing in promotional clips that the new Shawn Mendes 000JR-10E is inspired by his vintage Martin guitar, but what vintage Martin? I'm thinking either an 000-18 or an 00-18, but honestly am not sure. Anyone know what the answer is to that?

There seems to be a lot of disagreement on which Martin guitar was the basis for the 000JR-10E SHAWN MENDES. The site Equipboard lists a number of guitars Mendes uses/has used. But there are other sites with other slants on the topic. Taylor guitars are given a lot of ink on some of these, also.

I recall seeing a video that described how Mendes and Martin collaborated on building this guitar. In essence, it's a 000JR-10E with a few "flourishes" added. Some are cosmetic (his signature on the 3rd fret inlay, the swallows etched into the saddle) and some more noticeable updates: The ambertone finish, and the ebony fingerboard (versus Richlite).

Mine is now sitting in my living room within arm's reach. I don't know who Shawn Mendes is or what his "vintage Martin" is, nor do I care. I just know that it's a pretty cool and great-sounding, all-wood small guitar.

Yeah I don't know much about Mr. Mendes either - at 47 I don't think I'm his target audience, but I did actually order one of these even though I need another guitar like a pimple on my nose.

I like the no-signature version of this guitar with cutaway, the 000Jr-10CE, selling for $649 everywhere and used for as low as $510.

Same everything except richlite board, which I prefer, and less inlay bling.

And that way I don't have to think I am playing a teen heartthrob guitar.

Would you buy a Martin if it was the Taylor Swift signature model?

Had no idea who he is until I looked him up on YT. Sounds like his market is teenage girls with angst. Don't have a clue why Martin would stoop so low as to put out a signature guitar for this Fabian wannabee drip.

Ouch. That's harsh.

Yeah, I'm sure Shawn Mendes's people are in crisis mode after realizing their marketing isn't resonating with people whose cultural touchpoint is Fabian.

You seem to be well aware of him.

I'm pretty sure it's a 00-18. He talks about it at the end of this video, and says his is a 1959, but doesn't specify size.

Re: Mendes as a performer -- I think we should be glad that there are still some contemporary/popular pop stars that write on and perform with a guitar on stage.

Yes looks like a cool guitar. I would look at it like those Ed Sheeren models. It's a production model with a few tweaks. Very cool tweaks, that is. I may get one when they're going for $400 used. For now, for $800 I'd try to get a used 15 series or even a 000-10 or 12 or whatever that has a standard 24.9" scale.
