Default Best headphones (closed and open) for studio work?

Could you guys recommend some good closed and open headphones for studio work? Mine are okay, but I think I could do better.

Todd

I use Sennheiser HD 280 pro closed backs for tracking. They are pretty popular and not too expensive. My nicer open backs for checking mixes are Sennheiser HD 600s. They are a lot “flatter” sounding and considerably more expensive but also very popular.

There are lots of other, equally as good recommendations as well. These are what I like.

The open-back MassDrop Sennheiser HD 6XX is a great bargain at $220. They're the same as the Sennheiser HD 650 which sell for over $300 everywhere.

For closed-back, you can't go wrong with the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO. ProAudioStar has some b-stock pairs for $129.

Grado for open back. Pick model in your price range. I have been using the 225e model

I don't think I could live without my Beyerdynamic DT770's.

I think they are very smooth and un-hyped, plus they are comfortable for hours, have replaceable velour pads and don't bleed enough to matter when tracking.

I agree with ric-slo about the Grados. AT M50s sound OK and don't bleed for tracking.

I ordered my HD6XX yesterday, my first Massdrop purchase. Anticipating many hours of late night mixing with them.

My favorite closed back for monitoring/tracking are my trusty AKG 271 Studio.

The standard of the studio industry is the AKG 240 series. The current version is the 240 Studio. At the studio where I work we've got 240s that have been in service since 1980. They've had replacement ear pads but just keep chugging along.

The real benefit of the 240 series is that they can be worn for long periods of time without fatigue, due to a really comfortable suspension system and a frequency response that doesn't fatigue the ears. You can find flatter ones, ones the have more high or low-end, more efficient ones, etc., but I've never found any that are comfortable for as long by even a half.

One of my best friends is a professional session and touring guitarist based out of LA. I literally asked him the same question a few weeks ago.

He recommended Sony MDR7506 cans. He's used them to track on several studio albums.

I got a pair and love them. At about $80 they won't break the bank either.

Exactly my sets as well, 280 for tracking 600 for mixing

For monitoring, I have been using the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x closed backs since January.

Did a bunch of research and farmed recommendations and at around $140, they check all the boxes for me - including budget.

Default closed or Open Bluetooth headphones

Hi there,
Are there any recommendations for Closed or Open 'Bluetooth' headphones for tracking/mixing purposes. I have Studiospares M1000 and M2000 (open) and have been happy with them, just wondering about the possibility of tracking without the dangling/tangling leads.

'Guess Bluetooth are a no no for Tracking or mixing then'

Go for the 58x instead at $160. Pretty much unanimous on head-fi and r/headphones as being superior to the 6xx unless you have a hefty amp. You can often find these used in mint condition on head-fi for about $130 or so shipped. Massdrop spent alot of time adjusting the tuning, but they most resemble the HD660s.

I've been a head-fi member since 2005 and have had over $50k in headphone audiophile stuff in my hands over the years, been to several CanJams, even held a couple meets. My current daily drivers are Shure KSE1200s, a $2k electrostat IEM. I consider this the best value in headphone audio, truly a hifi experience on a dime.
