Default Pre-War Guitar Co. up and coming

Gotta give my fellow North Carolinians at PWGC an unaffiliated plug.

I’ve had the opportunity to play several of their guitars now and am very impressed all the way around. Ive played a slope, dread, OM and 000 and, while the 000 was the standout for me, they were all remarkably built and sounded every bit as good or better than most traditional guitars I’ve played or owned.

On the controversial finish options, I’d love the naysayers to get their hands on one because it really is beautifully done. The level one (least distressed) finish truly emulates a well cared for vintage instrument....but it’s brand new with a full warranty! Maybe it’s a placebo effect, but the guitars just feel and sound looser, broken in and opened up. That part may be psychological for me, but the tone is for real.

I’m not trying to start the tired relic debate, but keep an open mind on these guitars because I think they are onto something. And their waiting list just passed one year. Well done!

They are building some fine guitars for sure. I just recently heard their build wait was out over a year. My wait times were around 6 weeks, 10 weeks, and 13 weeks respectively. But that was early on before price increases. I can't say enough good about them and Wes & Ben have great customer service. Like you I'm proud to have such skilled luthiers "right up the road" in Hillsborough, NC!

I'd like to hear ALBD's thoughts after playing a thinly finished Waterloo guitar. Maybe he/she has. I tend to think normal or thick finishes kill a guitar.

How's things up in Wrightsville? I'm sure right now you're "over run" like we are down here! Just curious...did you happen to run across a PWGC recently?

Ive been nothing but impressed with every Pre-War I’ve had the chance to play. Dreads, slope shoulders and OMs, all nailing the vintage tone and vibe. Impeccably built and wonderful to play. Though I no longer call NC home, I’m happy they’re doing well!

I'm headed to NC next week. I may have to stop by & check out the shop.

When they sent the "traveling" Model D out, I was among the first who got to try it for a few days. It's a great guitar, and thus far I've heard nothing but good things about Wes, Ben, & the Pre*War Guitar Co.

Yes you should visit them. May want to call first as I believe it's by appointment only? Great guys...great builders!

ALBD and Jim,

I think about a PWGC 000-18 on a daily basis... I enjoy listening to videos and staring at their website.

Or I can come and hang out with you for a week and get it out of my system, BUT it may make my gas worse!

I knew Ben when he was apprentising in Terry MccInturff's shop. Super nice guy. Glad things are going well for them.

Other than the current heat and ever growing weekend crowds during the summer things are great on WB. The fishing is slow but the water is still crisp!

Yes. I did recently came across a burst 000-28 that blew me away. Familiar with it??
