Default Inside the workshop video

Hi everyone,

I hope you're all well.

I have a lovely new little video that my assistant Daisy helped me to create - and we are particularly proud of it!

My husband Karl and I spent a large part of last year expanding and reworking the layout of the Turnstone Guitars workshop, expanding out into the smaller rooms around my existing single workshop room. It was quite the ordeal - installing a fully functional spray booth into a second floor room (never again), moving and re-plumbing whole kitchen and toilet spaces (perhaps again) and creating 5 seperate working spaces for all our guitar making needs (inevitably again). It was at times a barrel of laughs and at others a desperate cry for help. However we both seem to have come out of the other side alive and are here to tell the tale.

I hope you enjoy this short video that gives a little insight into our world and where we build our guitars.

Nice video and nice shop, Rosie... very clean. Pretty guitars! I love that drawing on the wall outside the wood storeroom. That was really sweet... kinda minimalist. Thanks for posting the video.

Good morning Rosie,

Thank you for this peek into your shop. It’s fun to see how other luthiers’ shops are set up...and yours is well thought out. It’s quite obvious that you and Karl put a lot of thought, time, and energy into it...and Daisy did a wonderful job with the video.

Really enjoyed the peek into your workshop. It looks like you created great spaces to allow for efficient work. Nicely done!

Daisy’s creation! I bought it from her before either of us ever knew we would join together. I love it - so simple yet beautiful.

Tell her it's great. "Simple yet beautiful." That describes it perfectly.

Like others have commented, I love to see how others organize their shops. We recently moved and so, when we have the house put together, I look forward to setting up my new (and thankfully larger) shop. Dave

Thanks for posting this, Rosie. I really enjoyed getting to see the workshop. I'm not a luthier (or even much of a woodworker), but I tour guitar workshops when I can--a habit curtailed by the pandemic so this vicarious tour was most welcome.

And for anyone who hasn't caught it already, I also recommend Michael Bashkin's interview with Rosie on his Luthier on Luthier podcast.

cheers,
Larry

Thank you Larry that is really sweet of you. I'm glad I could indulge you in your habit during these strange times! I'm also glad you were able to check out the interview I did with Michael, I had real fun talking to him.
