Default #1 OM, Benjamin Paldacci Guitars: "First Taste" - video on line

Hello Everybody,

Some people probably remembered me, I posted one thread when I was at the National School of lutherie, at Quebec City. I graduated in may 2013, and I opened my own workshop the december,1st. So, I began my first guitar after school: OM Modified Indian RW and Sitka Salvaged, from Roy Tonewood.

Rosette: Segmented, Like Jason Kostal or Ervin Somogyi. Black Ebony/Indian RW/figured Mapple
Top Braces: Salvaged Sitka Spruce

Back-center Purfling: Ebony with White/blac/White Purfling
Binding: Black Ebony
Neck Material: Honduras Mahogany
Nut Material: Bone
Faceplate: Segmented design (same woods than Rosette)
Backplate: Solid Black Ebony
Fingerboard Material: Ebonyst Grade black ebony
Scale Length: 25.34 inches
Fret material: Stainless Steel
Number Of Frets Clear: 14

The guitar looks awesome so far. I love the photos, though I would suggest using a different white balance setting to take some of the yellow out of them (and some are a bit dark). The rosette is great, though a lot of people seem to be taking that "fragmented shape" approach these days so I'm not sure how much it differentiates your guitars.

Did you inlay the purfling strips of the rosette at the same time of gluing the rosette, or did you first glued the purfling to the (beautiful) ring, and then inlay everything?

It's a Kostalized rosette, I guess

I glue all the purfling and the rosette at the same time Quentin.

Don't mean to be critical. Just offering some constructive feedback other than, "It looks awesome," which of course is true. But not very helpful to you.

Please keep up the photos!

don't worry, I haven't taken as a critic, but as a constructive advice

I always want to improve my skills in what I do, it could be photography or lutherie, so your advice was good for me

Looking good, very clean work.
One question, I see a righty cutaway but the tone bars look like a lefty.

Am I nuts?

Hahaha no, you're not nuts! In fact, there is a little story behind this choice. At the begining, it was a mistake at school but when I played the guitar... it was like "oh god! It sound beautifull!".

I don't know if it is the consequence of this mistake but with the actual guitar, I really wanted to know if it plays a role or not... so, when I see that a lot of luthiers realized a X instead the tone bar, I think that you can have a lefty bracing on a Right-hand guitar

Thank you Matthew! In fact, it's a really Somogyi-Like cutaway, I really dig the comfort of it, but maybe I'll personalized it a little bit in the future

This looks very nice, and I love when a "mistake" becomes a possible innovation!! Is this a commission, or are you building it on your own?

I haven't got other comission for the next guitar so, I'll build the next for whoever'll wants it
