A beauty, Glenn! Every part of it. Suits you voice particularly. Is someone else doing the camera work?

Hi Charlie,

Thanks very much taking the time to watch and then provide comments here, Charlie! I'm glad you like this!

The cameras are set up on tripods and I start them up before I sit down to record. So no, it's only me doing the camera work. I provide some movement from the cameras during the video production with the video editing software. This video on how I make a video with good sound shows how I do this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBGm2vSzswg The short discussion on this starts at about 11:41 or so.

Thanks so much, Charlie!

- Glenn

Hi Fred!

Thanks for checking in! I appreciate your comments and thought maybe you would know this one. I'm glad you thought it came out okay!

How wonderful that you got to cruise the inside passage to Alaska! I have heard about that trip over the water but have never made it myself. How fortunate for you! We have a golden wedding anniversary coming up in a couple years; maybe that's something I can talk my wife into when the time comes.

Thank you for taking the time to comment!

Very well done Glenn!
Such a haunting melody and flow. You got me wanting to put it in my gig mix.
There's so many great songs. I have to draw the line somewhere, but thank God I don't know where.
Keep up the good work! I know what work it is but I'm sure all those great guitars keep you inspired.
Bless you!

Oh I Hate you Glen! So beautifully done, you put me to shame.

On my last album, some years ago now I did the same thing playing all instruments (vocals, harmonies, rhythm guitar, lead guitar guitar, bass dobro and mandolin. on each track.
I used an old Yamaha AW1600 (or some such - sadly sold) - wish I hadn't.

Your voice is still beautiful ...and after the cancer business last year, whilst I've worked very hard to get back some power, I seem to have lost accuracy and become more shrill.

If I may make an impudent suggestion - I'd cut the percussion track out.

Also what is that second chord in the verse - it sounds a little strange to me.

Do you make albums out of your beautiful stuff?

Song is being played and sung in E ... that chord is a D major.

I bet you could do a great job on this song!

And yes, having some nice guitars is fun. More than one is just pure luxury and is probably not necessary, but I really appreciate having a bunch of choices.

Hi Andy!

Thank you for commenting! I love hearing from you. You have such a wealth of experience, your comments are always interesting.

The rhythm track is not the strongest part of the song, and I can see why you think that I should have left it out. The tempo of the song is so slow, however, that it was helpful to me in playing the song so that I did not run away with the tempo. Then again, maybe the tempo is just too slow to begin with. We live and learn...

I'm terribly sorry about all the troubles you have gone through because of your cancer issues and how it has affected your ability to sing. I'm glad you can still sing, but I know it's not the same.

I am humbled that you think I have a reasonably decent singing voice. We are essentially the same age and so you and I both know that age takes its toll on our voices, even without the ravages of health problems.

Murmac is right about my playing the song in the key of E, as I am playing with a capo on the 2nd fret in the key of D. However, that 2nd chord with capo on 2nd fret is an A chord with an added C# in the bass. Then it transitions to A with an added C. These chords are typical of stuff played by a piano player. I feel pretty certain that they are accurate, because I repeatedly played the song with the recordings on YouTube to be sure I had them right. At first they sounded weird, but then when I got used to the sound I found I really liked it.

I have never made any albums out of these YouTube videos, but I have the raw audio tracks that I can pull up in my DAW (digital audio workstation). If you are ever interested in an mp3 of any of these songs, please send me an email and I can make you audio versions of whatever you might be interested in.

Thanks a lot for your thoughts Andy. Stay well!

- Glenn

Hi Murmac!

Thanks for your input.

See my comments to Silly Moustache above about the chords in the song. The weird chord that Andy was wondering about was, on capo 2, an A with an added C#, or if the capo was removed, it would be a B with an added D#. On capo 2 the chord then resolves to an A with a C bass (or B with an added D bass).

This is the Rick Price version of this song on which I based my arrangement. I really like how he does this...

Regards,
Glenn

With Silly Moustache's questions about some of the chords in this version of "Walk Away Renee," I thought I would show the chords and lyrics below for anyone who might be interested in playing this song with a similar approach.

Walk Away Renee
Tony Sansone, Michael Brown
(Capo 2)
Intro:
/D / Bm / G.. Gadd9 /A7sus4.. Asus2/

[Verse 1]
D..............A/C#...................A/C.........G...Gadd9
And when I see the sign that points "One Way"
Gm............D/F#................G..D..Em..D..E7sus4.. E
The life we used to lead every day

[Chorus 1]
D..............Bm
Just walk away, Renee
........G.....Gadd9............D...........A
You won't see me follow you back home
.....D.........Bm........................G .........................D...Asus2
The empty sidewalks round my block they’re not the same
G..........D/F#...Em7....D / Bm / G Gadd9 / A7sus4.. Asus2
You're not to blame

[Verse 2]
.........D.....................A/C#........................A/C........G..Gadd9
From deep inside the tears that, I'm forced to cry
Gm.............D/F#....................G..D.....Em...D.....E7sus4.. .E
From deep inside the pain that I chose to hide

[Chorus 2]
D..............Bm
Just walk away, Renee
........G.....Gadd9..........D............A
You won't see me follow you back home
D................Bm...................G........... .......D....Asus2
Now as the rain beats down upon my weary eyes
G...D/F#...Em7.....D....../Bm../G..Gadd9../..A7sus4..Asus2
For me it cries

[Verse 3]
.........D............A/C#.......A/C..............G..Gadd9
Your name and mine inside a heart on a wall
Gm............D/F#...................G.........D......Em..D....E7s us4..E
Still finds a way to haunt me though they're so small

[Chorus 1]
...D............Bm
Just walk away, Renee
.........G......Gadd9...........D.............A
You won't see me follow you back home
D................Bm........................G...... ......................D...Asus2
The empty sidewalks round my block they’re not the same
/..G..D/F#..Em7..A7sus4../
---------------------------

[Chorus 2]
..D..............Bm
Just walk away, Renee
..........G....Gadd9.............D.............A
You won't see me follow you back home
D................Bm....................G.......... ..........D......Asus2
Now as the rain beats down upon my weary eyes
G....D/F#...Em7......D../..Bm../..G..Gadd9../..A7sus4..Asus2/
For me it cries

[Ending]
..D............Bm
Just walk away, Renee
../...G...Gadd9../..D....A../
-----------------------------------------------
..D............Bm
Just walk away, Renee
../...G...Gadd9../..D....A../..D//
-----------------------------------------------

I hope all the periods used above are not confusing. With the forum's software I have to use them as place holders for the chords so that the chord changes end up over the correct words in the song.

Thanks,
Glenn

My Australian friend Mach Buffet suggested this song as covered by Rick Price as a good one for me to think about, so I decided to give this a try. I recorded the main vocal and 1st guitar live and then added the other instruments. I added a 2nd acoustic guitar (the guitar is my Olson SJ), electric bass, drums (Easy Drummer), and vocal harmony on the choruses. The song is slowed in tempo (at 80 bpm) from the original recording by the Left Banke and the arrangement is modified quite a bit.

Rick Price used a classical guitar with a fairly simple arrangement and a lot of the accompaniment was done on piano. I came up with a more elaborate guitar arrangement though I used the same chords and pitched it in the same place as Rick Price. I played the main guitar on capo 2 in the key of D (key of E, really). The 2nd guitar is played on capo 7 as if it was in the key of A. I started out trying to come up with a 2nd guitar part with the capo on the 2nd fret, but found that I could do more using the capo on the 7th fret, even though it was pretty crowded up there on what was left of the fretboard. The 2nd guitar part came out kind of pretty after dinking around with it for a while, I thought.

I played the bass guitar in the real key of E but my bass arrangement was very simple and is mixed at a fairly low volume level into the overall mix. I also mixed the drums fairly low and the same for the vocal harmony, which was quite high. I just made the harmony up as I was working through this.

I hope you like this. Thanks for listening and watching!

- Glenn
Waouw that was beautiful! I really loved the vocal harmonies, cool to see you play bass guitar also, and that Olson sounds incredible
