Laurelyn's box is done, the dovetail cavity is cut, and we're on to the neck tomorrow.

I'm loving following this thread! Bruce- you build such wonderful guitars. And having your daughter build with you- what a cool thing! Laurelyn's guitar is looking beautiful! I look forward to continuing to watch this thread.

Nice work Bruce...not on the guitar per se, but on encouraging her on taking action and going for it. Also nice keeping her with your tradition of building including dovetail neck.

It looks elegant even at this stage of the process.

Best,

Hard to miss with “all classic” moves.

Thanks to all.

Hi everyone! I’ve finally gotten around to making an account on here. I’m so excited to see how many of you are following along on this adventure with me.

As of yesterday, I have glued on my head plate, fitted and inserted my trust rod, glued on the fingerboard, and am about to start carving the neck once I’m back to work on Monday.

Thank you guys for your attention and support!

Laurelyn will probably get this 00 ready for finish by the end of next week, her 5th week. It will be 24.9" scale, by the way. 1 3/4+ nut and 2 5/16 bridge pin spacing, pretty much my standard.

Our neck shaping process starts with shaving and rasping the mahogany into 5 facets which must be dead flat with well defined edges at the pencil lines you may have noticed in previous pictures. If this stage is not right, it is very unlikely to get a perfect neck shape.

Here is Laurelyn rasping her neck into facets:
