I bought a pair of nice Keen winter boots a year or so ago after the soles of my Merrill's completely fell off after 15 years of wear.

I have a pair of LL Bean boots with an extra felt insole if I need to muck about in snow for any length of time. Warm and waterproof. Also a Thinsulate lined pair of Red Wings for general walking around in cold weather. If it's cold enough for either, I try to plan things so I spend as little time as possible outdoors.
Good warm socks are also an important thing, I have 3 kinds.

I have used Sorel felts for many decades and have had fantastic luck with them. I typically have a couple of pairs at different stages of wear.

Love my LL Beans as I have been putting them to work the past few days. More snow here than I have ever seen. Deck awning caved in etc....Anyway, the boots worked great.

None in the city (obviously) but heading to Tahoe for the next week where my Sorel’s rule supreme.

Living in Minneapolis for a few years forced me to embrace Sorrels. Great boots for extreme cold and snow. I also found Danner, which was my go to boot when there was less than a few inches of snow. Great US made boots.

For years it was the 5-Buckle over-boots. They worked just fine. Then came military service and the felt-lined canvas mukluks with the rubberized soles, or the inflatable "bunny boots" (air crew member), for the extreme (Alaska & Aleutian) conditions. After that I returned to the 5-Buckle over-boots and, now that I'm in central Florida, I still use them when pressure washing or for other wash-down chores.
