1. What intrigued you to play guitar in the first place?
The sound of "guitar". 2.How do you figure out what the best guitar is for you? I try lots of guitars. But "best guitar for me" seems to change over time as I explore different music and also as my body changes due to age or disease. 3.What sound do you look for in a guitar? The sounds find me. I play guitars and one will have "something". Othen that something is similar to a sound I hear my favourite artists do. 4.How many days a week do you play guitar? 7 5.What interferes with you playing guitar? Kids and work. 6.What do you prefer acoustic or electric? And why? I like both, but in a city apartment it's very hard to play electric. 7. What experience do you get from playing guitar? Playing and singing songs together with my daughter. 8. How expensive of guitars do you look for and why? I look for pro level guitars, not collection items. These tend to be $1000-$3000. 9. What guitar artist inspires you to play? Too many to list. Some random names are Gillian Welch & Dave Rawlings, John Scofield, Rev Gary Davis, José Gonzalez (Swedish singer songwiter). 10. What's your biggest frustration when playing guitar? Connecting what I hear in my head to the fretboard.

1. The sound and romantic notions
2.The tonal quality and the playability 3.I don’t think I can provide a meaningful answer. I could say a balanced sound with rich harmonics and long sustain but I’m not sure that would be helpful 4.These days it is only 2 or 3 times a week that I play my guitars. 5.The greatest obstacle is health and the amount of time spent tuning the guitar – having to contend with wound strings whose intonation wobbles. I wish I could just pick up one of my guitars without having to tune it. 6.I like both but have a preference for acoustic guitars for their more satisfying dynamic range and harmonics. 7. Satisfaction 8. I tend find that the more expensive guitars sound better and are easier to play but I’ve come across many exceptions. 9. Christopher Parkening, George Harrison, Jim McGuinn, B.B. King, Tommy Emmanuel, Carlos Montoya, Paul Stooky and Peter Yarrow, Mark Knopfler among others. 10. Diminishing skill due to advancing illness. |

my number one for new players is build your callouses. what gives when you press flesh on steel on wood? flesh. also practice lightly pressing down on the string until it sounds good. that way you don't strangle the guitar and get physical problems. ergonomics and stretching exercises are paramount.
try to surround yourself with players better than you. don't be intimidated. play music!
