Thank you for sharing this. It's the most rational account of the events and puts to rest all of the hyperventilating early claims posed by over-eager media commentators who knew nothing. In fact, it indicates that the title of this thread needs to be changed. It's not an "LIV/PGA Tour merger"; it's a PIF/PGA Tour partnership. The status of LIV is still up in the air.

I ran into an article where the head of the PGA explained to his people that they had no choice but to come to terms with LIV. The expense of fighting LIV was quickly bank robbing the PGA. The unlimited funds that the Saudi backed LIV was willing to spend fighting the PGA was quickly bank robbing the PGA. If they would have continued the PGA would no longer exist.

Sounds plausible. If that's true, then all LIV was ever meant to be was a tool, like a crowbar, to pry into the inner sanctum of professional golf and take a controlling seat at the table.
In other words, a hostile takeover in which they beat the other party into submission with overwhelming funds.
I wouldn't call that a merger, but that's probably what the lawyers will call it when the dust settles.
