Sorry, but it was just a matter of time because of the money involved. It's not much of a story for me.

FWIW the closest I come to playing golf is going to Top Golf but even the food is sub par.

So it really is about the money.
Virtues,Legacies, Honor and Principles really had very little to do with it.

I wonder what Rory will have to say publicly about this.

I know exactly how I feel about it, and I’m not even a golfer. It stinks, it reeks of back door payoffs. Didn’t OPEC cut back oil production by a million barrels a day - just yesterday? Doesn’t that mean that we, gasoline buyers, will actually be paying for all of it with the increased prices?
There is so much wrong with this.

And to think that the PGA has a “NonProfit” status.

I'm shocked....was not expecting this.
The only scenario I envision is that LIV was failing badly because it couldn't land any sponsors or TV contracts. To save themselves they then went to the PGA tour and see above....

I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I don't think this will go down well in some corners, but the LIV players must all be laughing pretty hard now.

Oh well, there's always the LPGA.

This stinks for reasons that cannot be discussed without violating the rules of the forum. I predict that it will cost Jay Monahan his job.

I can scarcely believe this... I may have just lost my taste and interest in professional golf.

I've loved and played golf since I was a kid... and have had my own feelings about the attitudes and behavior of PGA players; some, not all.

This is beyond the pale of anything I'd have ever imagined.

Just. No.

If you live long enough you'll see things you could never imagine? I believe the NFL is one high profile mega star death or paralyzed away from being flag or two hand touch football? The writing is on the wall.

What is known is that the merger formally ends what was ongoing litigation between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. I

I can't help but think this was a prime motivator.

I saw this just before a client walked in the door, thus my short comment (not sure how I feel about this)

I feel a lot like Jseth - been immersed in the game for a long time - playing 5-6 days a week during season for 27 years now and more casually for the 20 years before that.

Like free agency and ridiculous salaries have invaded other sports, now golf has gone down the same type of road.

As Andre said, the LPGA tour may be getting a lot more of my attention going forward - it was already about 40-60 but I think the percentages are going to change.

On a more personal note, this is happening at the same time I'm growing very weary of what happens on most courses these days - most of which is causing speed of play issues. Just too many people who don't fully understand the game and etiquette.

This may well be the last year I play - I'll be on a fixed budget after February when I retire, and shelling out the membership money may not be in that. I'm an all or nothing kind of guy, so it may be time to hang up the clubs.

The PGA didn't need to do this.

They should've let the LIV continue to bleed to death in obscurity.

It wreaks but so does much with the whole sport which is a shame. Best I can say or think is it would be a much better sport done at an elemental and approachable level like carrying your own clubs at municipal or community golf courses.

Having been sleeves rolled up in keeping the municipal course near me, it doesn't seem like golf has a same or similar element that is keeping some other sports health and affordable. No group or benefactors have stepped up as has been with tennis, curling, pools, Nordic skiing or bike properties. We've bailed out our golf courses repeatedly or some become subdivisions.

Grrrr... and best wishes to those of you who enjoy the sport. I just don't know a not big money alternative as exists with some other activities that also need space and broad support.
