Default Any other heart transplant recipients out there?

A dear friend of ours had a heart transplant and we just wondered if there are any other heart transplant recipients out there in AGF land? I'm so thankful that modern medicine has made many huge strides forward to add years and quality of life for our friend. Are you open to sharing your experiences?

I had a friend who got a human heart and, sheesh, this was probably 30 years ago! He did gain some time, I forget, maybe a couple of years.

A current friend of mine got a liver transplant about four years ago and he's doing great.

I did not even realize they were still doing heart transplants. Are they always human hearts these days?

I know a guy who had one. I’ve known him maybe twenty years. You would never know if he didn’t tell you.

A friend since childhood is doing well with her transplant. The story of the donor and her good life prior to the whole bad mess made her rethink some of the things in her life as nonsense and be totally about doing good and doing much every day.

There is a transplant team vehicle often parked in our downtown lot near the fire department and I'll have solemn thoughts when I see it take off. Sometimes first responders escort it. It is a big reminder of tragedy, hope, skill and luck.

You might appreciate Bonnie Raitt's Grammy award winning song "Just Like That".

Transplant no
I guess ya could say I have been rebuilt a bit

Bilateral Carotid Endarterectomy, -- Double Bypass, -- Pace Maker, and Freeze Ablation

This was in recovery after Double Bypass. What frankly amazed me was even with cracking open your breast plate, there really was not much pain. I was off any pain meds the next day.

I mean for me, getting a dental implant was way more painful.
The worst/strange part, was when they pulled the drain tubes didn't hurt but boy did that feel strange

And now still vertical and doing well

It's nice to see good reports of the successful heart surgeries. We don't know what we don't know until those with experience tell their stories. As a volunteer in a local hospital I see the occasional cooler come with the response team. I know the tragedy becomes a blessing for another, but there is still that butterfly in the belly and misty eye moment.

Last week a relative of mine chatted with me about her heart transplant and she giggled the whole time she was telling me about her adventure. She said the surgeon suggested 3 plus years of happy living. She had reached her 3 and was wondering where it would go from there. This thread helps me share the this side of her giggles.

I really appreciate seeing the upright position at the mic with a guitar in hand. Thank you.
