Can you post a picture of the tuners? I may have some spare ones sitting around...

Be sure to check the nut slots for binding too, that's probably more likely to be a problem than cheap tuners are.

I hear you on the nut slots, but my son's MIM Mustang had issues not staying in tune. As soon as I changed the tuners to Grovers, the problem disappeared.

Understood. Here are the ones my Sweetwater guy said would fit my Squier Contemporary Tele.

Those tuners on the Contemporary Squire should be fine. I have used them, and I truly believe it's the nut slots. Every Squire that I've played, including my Jaguar, had an ill fitting nut. On almost every setup video I've ever watched regarding Squires, somebody mentions the nut! And, I changed the tuners on mine, and the strings were still hanging up, but soon as I recut a new nut, the problem disappeared. Squires are notorious for being shipped needing a proper setup, that's probably a good reason why they are so inexpensive. But once they are setup properly, they are actually pretty good guitars! On the plus side, if you have a good tech nearby, recutting a nut, is cheaper than a set of tuners! The tech can tell you if you need the new tuners.
