Planning to go pick it up Monday. Ryan is the shop photographer, cinematographer and audio engineer, and he's on vacation next week but I'm going to attempt to help Steve get the requisite media.

Congratulations on a beautiful guitar @Vanceen! I loved how the woods came together on this one. The ziricote bridge on the LS top looks stunning!

Hanter, we had a piece of African Blackwood picked out for a bridge, but changed to the ziricote. I am so glad we did.

As you can see, I changed my mind and decided to go with a Florentine cutaway.

We decided to go with a ziricote peghead overlay, fretboard, and bridge as well. Here's the fretboard and bridge blanks:

Good

Well, I got the guitar home last night. (I also picked up the Lutz / Tasmanian Tiger Myrtle SJ that some of you may have seen Steve playing on here, but more on that in another thread.)

I'll be posting a video and some pictures, but I thought some first impressions would be appropriate.

The bass is rich, strong and clear, remarkably strong with no hint of muddiness. The high end is sweet and clear, although the guitar is in no way bright. I understand this is to be expected from a redwood top. For my purposes that's much better than OK.

I would describe the sound as vocal. It "speaks" through its whole range, or perhaps "sings" would be better. Sometimes it sounds as almost as if the notes are chorused or doubled. As I expected, it would not be the guitar I reach for if I want to record a strummed rhythm track. For fingerstyle playing, which is what I wanted it for, I have never played a better sounding guitar. I'm not sure I've ever heard a better sounding finger style guitar (though I can't rule out some bias on my part).

It's very rich in harmonics, but the overtones are not dominating. They enhance and support the fundamentals.

The string to string balance, and the clarity of each string in chords is superb.

Plus, as you've seen, it's beautiful.

I'd say my expectations are exceeded. Watch this space for some video and photos within a few days.

When a customer drives away after picking up his new guitar, it's a bit like the jury retiring to settle upon their verdict. One can't help but feel a twinge of apprehension. So I am pleased, and pleased again, that Vance's verdict is favorable.
Vance, I hope it serves you well my friend, and you find plenty of satisfaction in your new guitar. Thanks for this opportunity!

Steve

Congrats Vance, I am not surprised at how great the guitar sounds. As the lucky owner of 4 Kinnairds, I think 4, maybe 5, each and everyone is amazing in its own right. I can hear yours in my mind as you describe the sound even before seeing any video or hearing any audio. I hope if we can have another B.I.G. you will be able to attend and I can put a few more Kinnairds into your hands to try!

Steve and Ryan have their craft down to a fine art for sure!

TomB'sox, thanks. I'd like to make it to B.I.G. if we can. I've got three S Kinnaird guitars now, so you're ahead of me!

So this thread will be drawing to completion soon. I thought I had a video made, but I had some trouble with my MixPre audio recorder (operator error) which means I'll have to try again.

I'll be interspersing these still shots in the video, but I thought some of you might enjoy seeing high resolution versions.

As good as it looks, I think it sounds better!
