Think about it, everything I just wrote is likely beyond the comprehension abilities of the “Snapchat” or “Instagram” generation.

The expected response to this statement from them would be the same as for most things... “what??”

No emoji permitted.

BTW...Facebook is still number one when it comes to self-aggrandizement, but Twitter has been coming on strong.
Ok, Boomer.

This type of interaction between others will just morph into some other new way of communicating.

This makes me laugh and it make's me think of my 16 year old nephew, he just can't imagine life with out a cell phone, and when his father take's it away from him for what ever reason his world is shattered. He become so freaked out at the thought of he might miss something... It is truly a addiction.

On Usenet we used to put ascii smiley faces :-) or <g> (to imply a "grin"),
in this modern age I still like to stamp smileys in where it seems appropriate ...

Glad we can share a laugh. Things are tense these days, so the emojis are helpful to showing when we are being funny (or at least trying to).

Plus, I knew that Jamie would get it (and possibly dish it back).

Absolutely cool , (don't tell anyone) but while I do sometimes lob the forum equivalent of a water balloon , even doing so , I almost never take threads and posts here very seriously.

There are no moderators, no one maintaining them, they are getting spammed. I like forums and I hate to see them go that way. This is one of the few vBulletin ones that I'm on that appears to still be maintained.
I noticed this recently. In the early 2000s Forums like this seemed all the rage but now with how social media has evolved Forums such as the AGF seem rare and a bit outdated. But I’m glad it still thrives.

I believe forums will continue in some form or another. People with specialist or hobby interests will still want to "meet up" to talk. What form they could take is anybody's guess.

There is undoubtedly a Darwinian element of survival of the fittest. Some of the forums I used to frequent have become digital ghost towns. You can almost see the tumbleweeds blowing through.

With the pervasiveness of all things digital it's very easy to forget that we are still in the infancy of the Internet. The "big bang" moment for domestic Internet was the introduction of broadband, less than 20 years ago.

Now, for most people the smartphone is the gateway to the digital world. You can take Internet with you, wherever you go.

I'm looking forward to what the future holds. I hope the AGF will still be part of that future.
