NGD: Halcyon Lutz / Quilted Mahogany Parlor
I received this sexy little thing a few days ago but haven't had much time to post until now. Been too busy playing it I think my girlfriend has become jealous of her. Ed sure knows what he's doing with these small bodied guitars.
The voice... - Big sound from a little guitar without even a hint of boxiness - Nice woody tone that sounds like it's breathing right from the sound hole - Incredibly balanced, not only from string to string but up and down the neck; she rings strong even with a capo placed at the 7th fret - Very sensitive soundboard; puts out a great sound with minimal effort - So easy to play up and down the neck with a perfect setup Update: Added a few short sound clips below. Keep in mind that these were recorded on an iPhone... The usual su-specs... - Size: Parlor - Top: Lutz spruce - Back and sides: Quilted mahogany - Bridge and fingerboard: Ebony - Faceplate: Quilted mahogany - Nut width: 1 3/4" - Saddle spacing: 2 3/16" - Tuners: Aged gold mini Gotoh 510s - Sound port: Yes, please I could go on about how good the guitar looks, but it's just easier to let you see it. Without further ado, some obligatory pics (so that it counts)... Ed, you may take a bow...

Nice -- I've no idea what difference it makes, but that quilted mahogany looks fantastic.

Nice! Tasteful soundport on it as well. What are your impressions of the soundport covered and uncovered?

Purely cosmetic...but it sure is nice to look at!

Haven't tried this yet, but maybe will test it this weekend and let you know. My guess is that the difference would be pretty subtle.

It is quite a small port, but I'd be interested to know your opinion nonetheless. Thanks for posting!

Great work from Ed as usual.
Interesting looking saddle as well. What is the string spacing at the saddle? |

Congrats !!
Congrats on your Halcyon and welcome to the club of very satisfied owners. Great review and beautiful pics and wood choices on the guitar. Almost got that "The Tree" vibe going on the back but for the satin rather than glossy finish as is the standard for Halcyons.
What's missing ? Sound clips of course !n Congrats again on what appears to me to be one of the best values (tone and build quality) in a custom build available today. John

Saddle spacing is their standard 55mm, or 2 3/16".

Welcome to the wonderful world of parlors. Yours is a beauty.
If you have the good fortune to play with others, you will find it requested by those you play with, because parlors blend with larger guitars in a way nothing else will. I find people saying, " you are bringing the parlor, aren't you?" I am valuing clarity more and more lately.
