January 4 Bonus Pics: When someone wants to spend more on a repair than they spent on the guitar.

LOLOL it would have been faster to get a new one at GC, dump the old one, and go, "There, fixed it!"

Louie, we strongly considered it. In fact, we tried talking the customer into a wonderful dumpster home for this one, but he believes this one is special compared to others of the same model. Besides the special feature of a bridge that wants to raise up to let the canal barges through, I’m just going to have to trust the customer. It will be fine before long. Just a day in the life of our shop.

That marquetry is really beautiful. Did it all start from Steve's over seas trip and the church ceiling???

Hey Tom, thanks. And yes, this was from the ribbed vaulted ceiling of the chapel at The Hospital (charity house) of St. Cross. Those old craftsmen had enough time on their hands (as well as skill!) to decorate an already amazing piece of work. All over Britain are lovely ceilings that just fascinate me. And looking ^up^ yields great rewards.
That said, they would probably laugh to see how their work inspired me.
Or maybe just shake their heads...

Steve

Of course we may have a build thread or two, and please ask any questions, but I thought some might like a daily pictorial.

LOL I've put more than one "mistake" into my circular file cabinet... But hey, at least you get to build spectacular instruments, so I guess you got to take the good with the, well, other stuff!

I think my favorite rosettes are contrasting wood rings bordered on the inside and outside with paua rings. This one is no exception. It's lovely.
