Default Helplessly Hoping by Stephen Stills (cover)

This is my cover of the Stephen Stills song from 1969 from Crosby, Stills & Nash's first album. I actually sang the harmony parts for the David Crosby and Graham Nash parts as shown on the video -- no technological tricks aside from my using a multi-track recorder to adds the two parts.

The guitar is my 2018 Martin D-45.

Thanks for listening!

- Glenn

Absolutely nailed it, Glenn! One of the best versions I've heard - I'm envious you can manage all those vocal parts too. Your recent take on 'From Clare to Here' was excellent as well - more true to Ralph McTell's original than many who "over-Irish" it.

Default Stills song

Great job as usual Glenn. Wish I had the range to pull it off.

Thank you Boombox!

I appreciate your listening and your kind encouragement! It means a lot!

Singing all three parts of "Helplessly Hoping" required me to use all of my normal singing range and all of my falsetto range, too. It took a few days of practice. Thanks again for the kind words.

Funny -- I hardly thought about the guitar part. I've been playing that since I was 21 years old!

And thanks also for your comments on "From Clare to Here." I got a lot out of that song.

I hope all is well for you!

- Glenn

Thank you Troutmeister!

I appreciate your listening and your kind comments! I was wondering for a while whether I had the range to pull this off, too. The Graham Nash part took some significant practice.

I hope all is well for you!

Hi 6L6!

How wonderful to hear from you! Thank you for watching and for taking time to comment!

This is a song I have wanted to do for years. I'm glad I finally faced up to it!

Really well done, Glenn. I’ve always loved CSN and have played many of their songs, including this one. My favorite to play was probably Southern Cross. Thanks for doing this and stirring up some good memories. Mike

Thank you Mike!

I'm pleased that you felt this came out okay. I will have to go remind myself about "Southern Cross." It's been a while since I listened to that.

Thanks for taking time to comment! I hope all is well for you!

Fess up there Glenn. You really did have Graham Nash swing by and sing his part and then you made it look like it was you because you think you’re better looking than him !

That was awesome my friend. Well done.

Hi Bob!

Thank you for the kind words and feedback!

In truth, if Graham Nash had come by and was willing to sing his part on that song, I would have gladly accommodated him! I can only wish!!!

Actually, Graham Nash is a pretty good looking guy, even for his age!

Thanks for watching Bob!

Thank you Bob!

I'm glad you felt this came out okay! It was a fun project and I learned quite a bit about how Crosby, Stills and Nash got their sound!

I hope you are well, Bob!
