Hi Bob,
Indeed, the body is off at the finisher's. As you know, we do the necks in house, so here's a couple of shots showing the color that we settled on. Sort of a golden honeyed nutmeg. Makes the Spanish Cedar look less sterile, and helps accentuate the maple. Here's a couple of shots: For something new on our bench, check out the recent post of Larry Robinson's inlay. Thanks mate, Steve |

Some shots from the White Room
Here's a few shots from Tony, showing the body after pore filling and first coat of finish (catalyzed urethane).
Thanks for watching along, Steve |

Here's a few shots showing the last stages of "building". What remains are fitting/adjusting/stringing-up. Gluing the bridge: Attaching the neck: Thanks for following along, Steve |

Your OM is looking great Steve. I believe you said this is your deep body OM design; what is its depth at the tail block and at the neck block? Also, am I right in assuming it's around a 25.4" scale? Is this optimized for any particular playing style (fingerstyle, flatpick, etc) or is it more general purpose?

Measures 4 5/8" at tail block, 3 7/8" at the neck block. And yes, it is the standard 25.4" scale. As you know, an OM is really versatile, well-suited to a number of different styles. If a person wanted just one guitar, an OM would not be a bad choice. Is it optimized? We aim for a quick response, lots of sustain and lush overtones. This starts moving it--I realize--toward a fingerstyle guitar. But with proper bracing and a stiff top, the sound won't break up if driven hard. One benefit of custom guitars is that the builder can weight the instrument in the direction the customer wants to go. This is why the player needs to communicate with the builder exactly what is wanted. Sorry to go on, but yours is an interesting question. Steve |
