For Sale: McAlister Baritone - Lower Price

If you have been around here for a while, you no doubt have heard Wade Hampton Miller wax poetic about how much he likes his McAlister baritone. He's not making it up; they really are that good. Roy was the R&D man for Santa Cruz when they introduced their line. Since going on his own, he can now make them the way he feels they should be made.

It may be the finest instrument I'll ever own; flawless attention to detail, with a warm, deep, and enveloping sound that does not deteriorate as you go up the neck. When you strum it, you want to enjoy the sound so much that it hurts to go to the next chord until the first dies out. Just rich, complete.

Roy said this was made as a sister instrument to one he built for Graham Nash and sent me photos of Jackson Brown playing it with a smile on his face. He wanted Jackson to experience it before he sent it to me. You'll notice the size is moderate, proof that a baritone does not have to be huge to have a big sound. They can be comfortable.

According to his site, a new one would run over $9600. I am asking less than 60% of this - just $5250. Thats a lower price than it was yesterday. The only flaw in this instrument which I can recall is a small air bubble entrapped under the pickguard - my fault, not Roy's. When new, I thought I saw the tiniest crack - but now 11 years later, I cannot find it.

This guitar looks amazing. I've heard from a luthier that bubinga ranks up there.... comparable to Brazilian...best wishes on your sale.....very interesting instrument. Made by one the best spoken of luthiers around.

Yes Bubinga was heralded as one of the best "new" woods, then they put it on The List. It was definitely the right choice for this one. Amazing stuff to peer into.
