Very nice idea. But explain the picture. Looks like there is a groove down the center of the top. ????

There is a lexan sheet cut out in a template of half of the top. I was just finishing tracing the OM shape on the top.

Ryan- that looks like some gorgeous Black Limba! Your picture reminded me, I have about ten sets worth of Black Limba lumber with insane landscape figure that I bought at Rockler Woodworking in Seattle about 15 years ago. Maybe it's time to make a show guitar with it!
Looking forward to seeing the whole guitar you've got there. Im sure it's typically brilliant.

Thanks Nemoman, it’s an artifact of when my oldest was quite young.
We like to hold our backs down with lots of sticks when they have been bad. |

It always amazes me that when carving the braces that you never get caught up with the grain and take out too much. Really delicate work it would seem to me.

Re the earlier Limba comments. I have made two from Limba, and both get good reviews, not to mention that I thought they were special. The results seem better than the timber seems promise, which isn’t always the case. |

You have way more control of a chisel than I ever did!
Sorry if this is a dumb question Ryan, but how do you decide when "enough is enough" on a brace? Flexure? Tapping? |
