Just one more thing: fingerstyle without nails has become a thing because of pickups and amplification. If one is doing music where you are trying to fill a room or a performance hall acoustically, nails are really the only way to go. For those who would be using pickups and amplification regardless of whether they have nails, not having nails works just fine.

This is a classical guitar section of the forum, so I can understand the bias towards using nails and traditional classical technique, but many of us are here because we like the sound and feel of amplified nylon string guitars, and for those of us in that group, not having fingernails is a viable option for sure.
