My guess is it's Purpleheart. I've seen it this bright purple colour before, but not in a long time. It would also have to be fairly freshly dressed to have not oxidized to it's darker colour. Mark will have to be the judge of whether my guess is correct

Thanks! Yes it's Purpleheart. I am making an all out spec of each of my models like I did with the Olivewood Penelope (but very different stylings). That Purpleheart is for when I do the Josie small jumbo. I'm currently working on the Greta and will start up a build thread on that one in a couple of weeks.

Woohoo ... do I win anything for guessing right?

Over 30 years ago I bought some Purpleheart for a project at school that was that bright. Here it is now, it was used as an inlay with Red Oak.

As this was an oil finish, it oxidized quite a bit. A very deep purple that looks great in person in the sunlight.

Wow Mark Hatcher you do such beautiful work. I thought MY Hatcher was your most beautiful one, but every new Hatcher I see, I think maybe I was wrong!

I can’t wait to see a purpleheart hatcher! And obviously to hear what tonal results it willl yield. i’ve got some sets and billets stashed, but am still a little afraid of bending them. They do ring......

Thanks Aram, I guess I should have clarified that better. That Josie will include Purpleheart in the wood inlays but, not the back and sides. I agree it rings nicely but you're going to have to be the first one to try bending those sides!

I agree. The lighter colored contrast of the Koa binding really makes it work!

Cool

The fretboard turned out spectacular, the Koa binding really sets off the Macassar beautifully. This was a great choice and I don't even need to see the Headstock to know that it will match up perfectly. What a great direction this build is going in.

Thanks! The head plate will be Macassar Ebony and will have Koa binding as well.

Here is the binding going on the back;

Here is the top with the binding on and the abalone purfling that matcher the rosette;

Thanks for viewing!
