Default Amazon Basics capo

The Amazon Basics capo, priced at 2 for $7.78:

The Kliq K-PO, priced at $13.95:

I don't know if the Amazon item is a really faithful copy, or if it's actually a rebadged Kliq.

If it's the latter, that's a hecka deal for under four bucks per. I ordered, and will compare to the actual Kliq when they arrive.

It definitely looks identical, down to every last detail. If it isn’t a re-badging, then it’s a complete rip-off by Amazon.

My bet is that the two companies came to an agreement.

Looking forward to your report. I’m guessing it’s like many products, made in Chinaand sold with different labels. Is the Kliq good?

Hmm. Lots of reviews from those who got one for “free” to evaluate. But filter for verified purchases and there are none.

Curious as to your experience with them when you get them. Let us know please!

I went ahead and ordered a pair of them, just for the heck of it. I seriously doubt that they’ll replace my longtime standby Shubb Deluxe capos in my affections, but these “amazonbasics” capos are inexpensive. When my friends come over to my house to play music I often give them strings (John Pearse strings, of course,) and I’ve been known to give away capos, too - that’s how I get rid of capos that I’ve bought because they’re new on the market and I want to try them, but which haven’t won my heart.

For less than the price of lunch I’ll have a couple of them. I suspect I’ll end up giving at least one of them away.

Can't wait till the Amazon Basics all-mahogany richlite board dread comes out!

Yes, it really is. I like it a lot. It's easy to put on and take off, looks nice, doesn't pull the strings too far out of tune. I was happy with it at $14 and I'll be even happier if I get two more just like it for under $8.

I’m not particularly worried either way. I’ll give ‘em a try, see what I think.

I will say that I’ve never found capos made mostly out of pot metal - which is what this and other capos like the G7 really are - to be the equal of capos made of brass or steel like the Shubbs and the Elliotts are. They don’t seem to perform as accurately and they’re definitely not as durable if they get dropped from any height onto a hard surface like a concrete floor.

Aluminum capos like the Kysers seem to hold up pretty well, though.

You buys have seen the Amazon Allbirds rip-off? Amazon is doing this in all products. Some copies are better than others. I suppose if you are ok with counterfeit Martins and Gibsons, you’d be ok with this too.

Just in general... it’s a poor moral business model. I wouldn’t reward it but to each his or her own.

Those two capos sure look alike. Probably are. Earlier in my life I worked for an contractor and we built a die casting plant in a neighboring town. They made household kitchen utensils. Some had Kitchen Aid stamped on the handle...some had Rubbermaid...some had nothing and were sold at Kmart...and they all came out of the same die casting furnace....LOL..all they did was change the mold on the handle for the logo...same with all the other kitchen tools.
