Beautiful guitars. You've almost certainly stated the neck wood for this guitar during your posts but I have looked but became confused and now I have to ask which wood it is. I love the way the grain flows around that heel.
Thanks.

I think you are asking about the recently finished guitar which Dano did the sound clips for. If so that is Limba wood. It's grain and workability is much like mahogany but in a very different color.

Default Progress spec #3

I have the sides all bent, laminated, and joined. Here is a picture of the heel block, cutaway tip support wedge, and neck block all glued and clamped;

Thanks!

Default More Domestics

In my continued efforts to expand my domestic woods selection I just got this wonderfully figured Cherry board;

It's 66 inches long and almost 9" wide. One side has some sapwood which I'll keep for the side wood. I'll leave the side cuts wide so I can control how much sapwood (if any) shows on the guitar;

The side without sapwood I've cut off for backs;

I suppose another advantage of keeping the sides at 9 inches wide when resawn is we would have the option of a sapwood back as well.

This is why I always prefer to get larger boards and billets, it usually leads to many more options!

Thanks for viewing!

Cherry has always been one of my favorite woods, I have made cabinets from it in the past. Should be a beautiful guitar

It is a lovely billet. I've never played a Cherry guitar. Is there another tonewood it's close to?

Thanks Mark for creating a masterpiece I will enjoy for many years to come!
Awesome guitar, sound, and playing.

I've become a fan of figured walnut. Pretty figure like koa, but doesn't have the bite of koa.

Thanks! This should yield four guitar sets as long as nothing weird shows up during resaw. I haven't built a cherry guitar yet so I'm no expert on it's tonal characteristics but, I'm sure I can make it sound like a Hatcher!

Default Maple Small Jumbo

I didn't get the box closed up this week as I had hoped. Between the laminating of the sides the cutaway, arm and rib bevels a lot of time goes by. I do have the sides pretty well set and made a lot of progress on the neck.

Here is a picture of the side set that only needs the Cocobolo block imbedded in the heel block so I can carve in the strap button bevel later. That's glued and drying now;

Wow that sidewood looks stunning!!!!
I have a question though, whats the advantage of the extra wide kerfing at the top of the lower bout and on the back side around the waist? are you utilising that in the lower bout for an arm bevel?

Thanks,

Yes, I am setting this guitar up with both an arm and rib bevels.

Default Piña Parlor with finish

I have my first show spec Piña parlor guitar with the finish on it. The deep reflective nature of the Claro Walnut is beyond my expectations and my ability to do it full justice in a photo. I am also surprised by the active shine of the Bloodwood in the rosette. The Redwood figure is no slouch either!:

I'm looking forward to getting this one all set up!

Wow! That is downright amazing. I remember when these woods were standing on the "idea" wall at the back of your shop and thinking how beautiful the naked wood was. Under finish they look like a million! Beautiful guitar Mark.

Gorgeous. Love the choice of bloodwood. That is one that I'd have a hard time not just staring at when I'm supposed to be playing the darned thing lol
