Trying to understand LR Baggs Lyric and Venue

Hey there....

I wish to record my acoustic guitar but I don't like dealing with microphones, the LR Baggs Lyric would do the trick for me. Good enough for what I need to do....

My question is, does it need a pre-amp? Also, what is a pre-amp?

I own a Focusrite USB interface and a Yamaha THR10C, which has an acoustic setting.
Do I need something else to record? While doing me researches I found the LR Baggs Venue, what is it used for?
