Default Martin Retro Medium/Light LJ’s Choice

Dropped a set onto my custom Adi/Sinker. Wow! Did they ever wake it up. Sounds and plays great. Great attack setup. Now earning back playing time in the rotation.

Today, it’s been 8 days since the Retros went on and they are settled in.

They replaced the OE Lifespan Mediums. The guitar was delivered in Dec so the change was overdue and it had fallen out of favor in my three guitar rotation due to the strings being worn out (it’s not my favorite chore). It’s also how I know the strings are too old.

I use Retro Mediums on my Dread Jr, and I have used Retro Lights on my OM-18 but this is the first time I'mhearing about medium/lights. I love Retro's. I'm going to try M/L Retro's next time I buy strings.

I have tried Retro Tony Rice med/light strings on my Guild D-55, my Martin D-35 and my Washburn HG-27-SE.

I like the way the sound on the Martin and Washburn but not as much on the Guild.

They have lasted a very long time for me.
I usually wear out a set of non coated strings in less than 20 hours of playing time.
The Retro strings last me for 4 or 5 times as long.
I attribute this to being made with nickle rather than brass.

There’s a chart on Martin’s Website that shows the various offerings with gauge of each string and total tension. The LJs only lighten the A,D & G strings and reduce overall tension by 15 lbs. The “Bluegrass” by Tony Rice could also be considered M/Ls but lighten different strings.
