There are TV sets in "sports bars" and "diners" here by me. Nothing wrong with that. I haven't seen any in "restaurants."

Fine in pubs and sports bars, otherwise no, I don't like them. Our local sushi place has one and I wish they didn't, but thankfully no sound.

How about the screens yelling at you while you pump gas? Or in elevators? Those really get to me.

TV's at the bar or a "eat some wings and watch the game" restaurant are fine.

Anywhere I'd go with my wife for a night out? Nope.

If you happen to see a show on eel catching, cooking or preparation, turn your head away from the television....

TVs suck your brains out, what else could have caused all the crazy stuff going in these days?

I try to avoid restaurants that play TV with closed captioning & no sound, but if I have to (a friend's invitation etc) I sit where I can't see the picture.

Places where they have the TV sound on, forcing you to listen? That's a dealbreaker.

This world is not your livingroom. When you're out in it, observe. Participate. Turn the TV off.

I had an experience very similar to RP.
I went to our local Pizza Factory, and up on the wall was the last game of the world series.
I couldn't finish my pizza, I was sick.

After eating a lot of eel in Japan I would probably not bat an eyelid at this, it’s just so delicious!

Of course it's an individual thing, but watching this show would make an eel addict go cold turkey........

Zappa had it right.

I may be vile and pernicious
But you can't look away
I make you think I'm delicious
With the stuff that I say
I'm the best you can get
Have you guessed me yet?
I'm the slime oozin' out
From your TV set

Coffee shops, in+out joints, and casual diners: if there's a TV and it can't be heard over the conversation, I can ignore it...

Sports bars and similar themed eateries: I realize it's a large part of the reason their customers are there...for that reason I never set foot in one of them...

The restaurants in general that I choose to frequent regularly do not display televisions...that's one of the main reasons (along with good food and service) that I patronize them...

There's absolutely nothing on TV that's so important to me that I need to watch it when I go out to dine, and I prefer to not be bothered by it just because some people can't do without their constant media fix...

I don't remember anything specific, but it seems like I've watched some things on a TV in a restaurant that was gross.

I'd be all for a no-cell-phone (or a no-screen) policy in a restaurant.

I very rarely go out to eat alone,so I seek out places where there is no intrusion from TV when my wife and I dine out. I want to focus entirely on my wife and enjoy good conversation with her instead of hearing a TV.
Once every 2 or 3 years I will stop in at an Applebee's or similar place. Even with the sound down I find TV there to be distracting.

The next, rather small step, will be to have the Big Brother party line message being broadcast to all of these TVs, whether in a restaurant, doctor's office, or gas pump. This might seem silly and far fetched, but we are just being conditioned for that eventuality. George Orwell saw into the future...
