Default Calkwalk stops product development.

Any one use Calkwalk Sonar.
Been using the Sonar platform since the late 90s.
The recently stoped development and are closing their doors.
Guess I will keep using the software until my computer crashes and burns.

Yes. Been using it for several years. Upgraded several times ending with the Platinum edition several months ago.

I debated the annual or lifetime subscription option (whichever it was?) a while back. Decided I was happy with the current version I had and declined. Feeling very smart right now. I will keep my opinion of Gibson (who bought Cakewalk) to myself.

I also plan to continue using it till my computer or Sonar Platinum goes belly up.

I did the free update for Sonar Platinum (purchased in 2015) about 2 weeks ago. That's when I found out about the closing. I was able to update all the new plugins and fixes, but for some reason I did not receive the big fish audio loop demo updates. I was looking forward to playing with that.
Perhaps big fish pulled it once they heard about the closing. Arrrgggg

If any one has a link for that demo .........I looked on big fish audio but nothing.

Yes I have SONAR Platinum. I just bought a new computer and was able to activated the program with no problem thru the Command Center. I'm planning on using it in it's current state for years to come, because it's so easy to use, has tons of features, and works great on my computer.

I've tried out many DAW and editing programs and SONAR is a winner. I'm planning on using it with Audition CS6, Sound Forge, and Notion.

For a backup I have Mixcraft, Samplitude and Digital Performer 9.5.1. I also have Studio One Artist, Cubase Elements 9, and Pro Tools First to play with.

Gibson has been in questionable financial condition for a while now . Just guessing but perhaps closing Cakewalk reflects Gibson trying to avoid defaulting on it's debt service in July 2018

that was a while ago and a couple of my friends are real upset that cakewalk didn't put out a notice. one of the friends had just paid for an upgrade. they will either stick with sonar for a while or see what else comes along to take its place. too bad as they both liked sonar a lot.

play music!

Unhappy Gibson

I bought the "liftetime" updates for Sonar Platinum when it came out a year-and-a-half ago. I have been very happy with the latest version of Sonar and have not had any issues or crashes. I think it's relatively easy to use and sounds great. I too plan to use it for as long as practical. I have been a Cakewalk user for two decades.

I am extremely disappointed that Gibson just chose to shut Sonar development down without any notice or without trying to sell that division of their company. If Gibson is not going to support me, I won't support them. I am not going to buy any Gibson product from this point forward. This includes any companies they own, such as Philips, TEAC, Esoteric, Onkyo, Pioneer, Cerwin Vega, Stanton, KRK or Baldwin.

I'm still using Sonar 6 on an older Windows XP computer dedicated/configured for music. Never felt the need to update.

Well if Cakewalk was a money making entity, they probably would have kept it running. So I have to assume that Gibson was losing money on the whole deal. Salaries of software developers aren't cheap. They may have just decided to cut their losses. I'm not here to defend or boycott Gibson...just sayin'.............

If Gibson is involved, a company's days are numbered. Nothing they have acquired has lasted.

I was a devout Cakewalk/Sonar user until I transitioned from PC to Mac in 2010. Since they didn't make a Mac version, I did some research and moved over to PreSonus Studio One. It's a fantastic tool, works seamlessly on both Mac & PC.

Anybody who's looking to change, I can highly recommend it...

If I were ever going to switch from Pro Tools (not likely as long as they stay in business) Studio One would likely be the one I would choose of the DAWs I have tried
The other would be Samplitude if they ever make it cross platform and usable on Mac OS

Sonar started acting up on me so I bought Studio One last night, I stayed up half the night learning how to use it...I like it !! I also bought the Faderport 8 controller which I'm told works best with Studio One.

Sonar is kind of scary. All the Cakewalk people who used to frequent the forums have clammed up....only customers there now. No news for weeks now.

Wow, I’ve been living under a rock. I had no idea Gibson owned all these companies.
