I got my new Blackbird Lucky 13 in the mail yesterday. First, this is a tough guitar to find in stock. I was hoping to support a forum sponsor but I would’ve had to wait a couple of weeks. Sorry guys.

I was originally in the market for a Composite acoustics GX, but last month at one of the local AGF gatherings I had the opportunity to play the Lucky 13 (Thanks Barb1!). I was sold.

It’s light weight and small size does not parallel its warm big sound. Though It’s not as loud as my dreads it does have loads of low end, along with the Clarity and sustain one would expect from a CF guitar. The action was a little high for my tastes when I got it but there was plenty of saddle, so shaving it down was not an issue.
And Thanks to Joe at Blackbird for fielding all my questions.

(Sorry for the lousy pics)

How would you compare the sound between your Blackbird and your Rainsong????

And enjoy that black beauty, too....

Good on you! Good find, nice guitar, cool pictures. That first picture is a bit risqué but interesting. Will you be doing any sound demos?

The Rainsong has a bit more volume but it does not have the warmth or low end that the Lucky 13 has. The best way to describe it is the Lucky has more of a "wood vibe". This is one of the things that got me hooked

Photography is so far out of the realm of my talents. I will be on the road for the summer but When I get back I will break out a mic and do a recording.

Congratulations, MBroady. I hope you enjoy your Lucky 13 as much as I do mine!

Congrats! My decision when buying my first CF was down to the Shorty or Lucky. The Shorty won out simply because I like the specs and was actually able to try one. I wish you could just walk into a GC and try an L13- I would imagine Blackbird would have to increase production

Rainsongs are also hard to find at GC, and while you get the "we can order you one" offer from them, it isn't anything I couldn't do for myself online. Seems independent dealers are the sole participants and I just find it frustrating.

Had it not been for the opportunity to try it out, I would have wound up with the CA-GX. I am a believer is serendipity.

I was not happy with my Riansong, but it is the hybrid - Carbon/glass. After some time with it I discovered I prefer the non hybrid Rainsongs.

Which Rainsong hybrid did you have? One of the older AWS models or the more recent hybrids?

I have the H-WS1000N2T, about a year old.
To my ears, It's a bit dull compared to the non hybrid version.

Congratulations, Matt! I have a Rainsong H-OM, doesn't sound dull, so maybe one day we can compare. That Blackbird looks great!

That's the trouble with verbal descriptions of tone. One man's "a bit dull" is another's "warm and woody" tone. Good thing they make both. Glad you like your Lucky 13, mbroady.
