New custom guitar display (s) day
I bit the bullet about a year ago and decided to remodel my home office. I have the ability to work from home but never really have very much, probably in part because my space was a little bit depressing and dark.
After thinking through how to incorporate my guitars into the room I went down the rabbit trail of guitar displays on Pinterest. All of that was geared towards hanging something on a wall but I was wanting to take advantage of already having framers doing a little bit of work in this large room to add a half bath in closet. Is a room above my garage that does not share the same roof line with the rest of the house, but is connected by a Breezeway / laundry room to the main house. I reached out to a friend who builds custom furniture to see if he could build me cases that would sit in the wall, that could be led-lit, and could seal with gaskets when shut. We ended up incorporating the same material I used for flooring in the room as the clad wood of the interior of the box. The design concept would be that these boxes would almost look like pictures hung on the wall like a shadow box. The frames we chose play Maple in an ebony stain as a contrast to the more Brown / Earth Tone of the wood on the interior of the box. I wanted the room to be clean and white, and provide the guitars all the attention. I'm happy with how it turned out and wanted to share with everyone here. My friend Trevor is a very gifted Craftsman who is generally building high-end furniture for wealthy clientele, this is my plug for him his pricing was very reasonable, and we have all of the dimensions and details figured out (boxes can accommodate a wide range of guitars, make them easy to take in and out without having to be overly careful about hitting them on the sides of the box), and my favorite thing is that the guitars rest on their lower bout rather than hang by the neck. I know that is Hocus Pocus Superstition too many of you The craftsmanship of these boxes is really amazing. There is great Precision with all of the hinges Lids gasket seal Etc. I'll follow-up pictures later today, I felt this belongs in Custom Shop since there's a few custom guitars in these cases and the cases themselves are custom.

There was a thread about this not long ago. Getting a lockable display was one of the best things I've done for the guitars.

I just took some quick phone pictures, tons of glare but gives you an idea. I can do better quality pictures at some point if the lighting changes.

Beautiful work, and great idea.
The guitars aren't too shabby either I made a nice case out of a closet, but if I ever remodeled, this would be necessary. |

I love the elegant simplicity of it. But I have to ask... is that a sunburst guitalele on the left? |

Very clean installation, and they look great, sunk into the wall like that. Doesn't take up space in the room, not blocking any place you'd put furnishings, and far enough from a (hopefully insulated) outside wall to control temperature.

Come on, fess up, there's not much working going on in there with all those nice toys hanging around! ;-)
They look fantastic. Are you able to share what he charges for them?

Very nice!
I really like the dark frame around the wood interior. Great lighting as well.

Trevor charged me about $7500 for all five boxes installed. I bought my own hardware from string swing, and the LED lighting. I will say when we were figuring it all out he has some really nice wenge left over from another job, someone could make something really cool with that...I just wanted to tie in with the flooring.

I have spray foam insulation, and they are spaced off the back wall a bit.

That looks amazing (as does your collection of guitars!). Who built the Larson looking one?
