Folks, do yourselves a favor and read all the posts in a thread before you ask questions or comment. I'm sure this has been said before.
That's it. Everyone have a great day.

Maybe ideally, but if someone comes across a thread on a topic they have questions about, and it runs hundreds of posts, they are not all going to get read.

Especially the older and longer threads. I'm surprised I haven't disagreed with myself when one of those pops up.

You must have a lot of time on your hands. Anything more than four or five lines and I usually skim it. If the thread is more than one page, I get a feeling for where the thread is going. There just isn't enough time in the day to read it all, unless someone wants to pay me and I will make it my full time job.

In a perfect world, yes, read all the posts. But as already stated, sometimes I don't want to read dozens of posts just to make a comment or helpful suggestion. To flip the responsibility on this to the OP, he or she could read only posts that are relevant and skip others or repeats versus having the responders read the posts before responding. It could go both ways I suppose.

I tend to be pretty consistent in my responses, but I get your point. I have answered the same question twice when my original response was a half-dozen pages back and/or a year ago. Sometimes I go back and scan through early posts to see if I have already posted, but not always. I'm particularly guilty of not reading through many pages on necro-threads that have been revived.

And yes, Rokdog. It is amazing and puzzling to see people responding to questions that were not asked, and no meaningful response to the ones that were actually asked. But it happens all the time. As a consulting engineer, I get paid rather well to make expert recommendations for projects. And even then there is a fairly high percentage of things that clients simply don't read.

I should have preceded my statement by revealing I am retired and I sadly, I spend to much idle time on this forum reading all your posts.
Look at this way, at least someone is reading them. .

Thanks Steadfastly, I appreciate that.
Oh and in case anyone hasn't noticed, 0ctober will be my anniversary for three years of being a member here. I have 6745 posts. That should tell you something. I know, how sad right.

You know it's bad when you read through a new thread and discover, on page three, that you've already replied to it.

Not sad, relaxed. At least you are not sitting at the local drinking hole...are you?
