Default Emerald Select Series for May

A rather lovely collection this month, including the new Kestrel archtop.

Along with a great showcase video!

Wow! Those are beautiful; understated elegance. Nice treatment of the birdseye maple along with the black back and sides.

A beautiful bunch for sure, and all sporting their new matte fretboard too! I wish they'd talk about it...can't watch the whole video now, does Mr. Hay mention it?

Also, holy crap the Kestrel is expensive! $4,600...puts the Balor out of the top spot by quite a bit.

It will be interesting to see what the standard Kestrel ends up at. I'm guessing somewhere in the high $3k range without a veneer top, and if they did a paddle head instead of the slotted headstock, that would knock off a few hundred also.

But... have you priced a custom archtop recently? I sometime think that because it's CF, people have a tendency to think it ought to be less expensive than wood - but economy is not the primary driver for CF.

One of the things that intrigues me, when watching the video, is that Mr. Hay seems to be picking up and manipulating the Kestrel with such little effort. I'd love to know how much it actually weighs.

Now, I think I'll go and watch Ian Ethan Case's gorgeous piece again.

Good points - I was thinking base would be about 4k, but I forgot about that carved headstock. It's probably in the low 3s...not too far off the X30.

I have never priced a custom archtop, and I'm pretty sure I don't want to

Love these! The X20 looks absolutely stunning. That dyed bird's eye maple looks like black suede, and when you pair it up with the matte finish fretboards you have a mighty fine looking instrument.

Understated and classy.
