Default What's Your Thanksgiving Dinner?

Well, it's Thanksgiving Eve and we've got everything ready for cooking tomorrow. Normally we have around ten or more people over, but because it's 2020 there's only gonna be three of us.

That being said, our feast this year is...

Roast turkey (a very small one)
Stuffing
Scalloped potatoes
Sweet potato casserole
Green bean casserole
Cranberry orange relish
Gravy
Biscuits
Sweet gherkins
Mince tarts
Cranberry apple tarts
Apple pie
Whipped cream
Ice cream

What's yours?

Good question. It would have been very difficult for my wife to put it on this year, even for a much smaller than normal crowd, so a good friend stepped up to bring it over for us. A beautiful gesture. There better be turkey

Turkey, stuffing, biscuts, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and corn. Pie, cake and cookies for dessert. Just the 3 of us this year. Thankful that my entire family is still safe and well even though we'll be eating separately.

My plans were just the basic turkey-dog and Wild Turkey over the rocks.

The family, however, has voted otherwise. Zov's Chocolate Chip Cookies made from scratch...plus too much other good stuff to list

The headliner of the meal will be jumbo scollops. Beyond that supper remains unclear?

Grilled wild-caught Alaskan Coho salmon fillets, oyster dressing, roasted green beans, and steamed broccoli. Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream ("Death by Chocolate" and "Butter Pecan") for dessert.

Deep fried Turkey, homemade Mac ‘n Cheese, stuffing, apple crumb and pumpkin pies. Sadly, just the wife and me this year.

Due to circumstances my wife and I were expecting to celebrate Thanksgiving alone. That doesn't change the meal at all because we love our joint traditions. But Tuesday my wife got a text from one of my sons. Due to other circumstances they weren't prepared to put together Thanksgiving dinner and wondered if we could host them? Of course we said, "Yes!" So Thanksgiving Eve we cleaned the house. After supper we started on the pies. My wife makes the crusts and everything from scratch. Early in our marriage she discovered that I am a cinnamoholic so she began chucking in handfulls of cinnamon and I love it. I hover around and help her however I can.

This morning after breakfast we'll make up the stuffing and while it is hot we'll stuff the bird. The menu will end up:

Roast Turkey with Gravy
Thyme and Sausage Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes
Shoepeg Corn
New Peas
Crescent Rolls
Cranberry Sauce
Apple Cider

For desert:
Apple Pie
Pumpkin Pie
Whipped Cream
Coffee

We keep it simple but it is delicious and sets off a season of repeat meals and turkey sandwiches. Enjoy your own Thanksgiving, wherever and however you celebrate it!

And now a little history: The first Thanksgiving in the New World was celebrated at Berkley Plantation on the James River in Virginia, on December 4, 1619. There wasn't a feast available that year because the settlers had just set foot on the continent that very day but the charter of the colony set forth that the landing was to be celebrated with thanksgiving annually. It was twice more, until a Native American ambush in 1622 killed 347 settlers, nearly wiping out the colony, and forcing its abandonment. That first Thanksgiving happened a year before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth and two years before the Pilgrims celebrated their first successful harvest with the Wampanoag Native Americans in 1621.

My sister is making the traditional, but I’m a plant based eater, so I can’t really eat any of it. 😥 Boo!

It's just the two of us, so we ordered full meals for curbside pick up from one of our nicer restaurants.

My son was going to have Thanksgiving with the family at his place but decided to call it off because of the pandemic. I'm glad he's careful. So today, it's just me and I'm having:

Fried chicken livers
Oyster stuffing with gravy
