46 years ago, Hank Aaron tied Babe Ruth's all-time home run record of 714, on opening day in 1974, in a game against the Cincinnati Reds.

The city of Cincinnati gave Henry a standing ovation...

In 1973, the “Twin Towers” of the World Trade Center officially open in New York City. The buildings replaced the Empire State Building as the world’s tallest building.

As an aside, when I was 17, I was part of a crew that wallpapered half of the 81st floor of the south tower, right where the second plane hit...

That must have been a long off-season for Hank. What a tremendous accomplishment. I can still see him rounding the bases ... a clip I never saw live but saw numerous times since then.

Default Hartford Whalers

Dru, you'll appreciate this. On this day in 1997, the Hartford Whalers played their last game. I was there with my son. Not a dry eye in the house! Moved to NC.
Lots of NHL moves
Winnipeg left for AZ, but now a team there again;
Nordiques, Atlanta Flames, Rockies (came back as the Avalanche),Minnesota North Stars to name a few.

Hey Larry - you were there? That's cool ... .and sad. It's a shame that those cities lost their teams. I have a Ron Francis #10 Whalers jersey. Those retro jerseys are so cool.
