I was in New York City recently and came across this pay phone down near NYU:
Pretty sure I'd need a strong antibiotic after using that thing... Last edited by CoffeeFan; 10-24-2019 at 11:44 AM. |

On Whidbey Island, Washington, they left some in place for folks who can't afford a cell or is homeless. Free call. Pretty cool.

Just got back from vacation and many of the phone booths in England have been converted to defibrillator stations. Thought that was a really smart idea.

The last time for me was a Navy deployment from mid-2001 to early 2002 during which I used payphones overseas to stay in touch with my family.

Can't remember. it was probably in an airport pre-dating my first cell phone in 2004. I was a late adopter of cell phones until a project required it. After that I have never used a pay phone since.

I still see them at airports. Just on Maui and they are still there in odd places. The parking structure next to Whaler's Village has one on the ground floor near the elevator. Just happen to park near it. My luck day. They are well on there way to the "do you remember when" file.

If my short memory serves, there used to be banks of payphones at airports, train stations, and bus stations. I don't use those modes of transportation, but has anyone seen them at these locations?

Maybe not all you could possibly want to know about the current state of payphones, but pretty close: The Payphone Project.
