Speaking of pedal I got my first, an Xotic Soul Driven AH
Having just gotten back in electric in November. And enjoying the heck out of it. I am waiting the arrival (Monday) of my first pedal purchase. I managed to find a unit still available of the mostly sold out, limited run of the "Soul Driven AH" over drive by Xotic of California.
This is I guess you would call it, a signature model limited edition (of 1500 units) analog overdrive pedal. Developed for or with, Allen Hinds ( thus the AH) With volume, gain, mid boost and tone controls. Ah yes in E-GAS mode here A somewhat casual promo video here

Xotic make some great pedals. I've got their RC Booster which is fantastic for tweaking EQ and as a clean boost / (modest) gain pedal.

Kev, Congrats on the Xotic. I've never played that brand but I've read great things about them in the past. The Soul Driven ... I wonder if it's anything like the Soul Food, which is a fantastic pedal that I have on my board.

Thanks guys I have to admit I have no experience with FX pedals. So I am not certain how it might flesh out vs. other pedals.
It is touted as (like moon said about the RC ) another "modest" boost, with apparently the "mid boost" being a bit unusual". For years for gigs I have used a Boss Tuner pedal that I like but I used no other pedal FX for my acoustic guitar gigs, other than an excellent rack mounted TC 3000 stereo reverb, at the front end of my PA . But with starting (only this fall) to play electric, I do plan on getting a few pedals. Since I have (what sounds to me like a really great) tube driven tremolo and reverb, already on my amp (which I am waiting on a back ordered foot switch) I am really only contemplating getting a delay, and a looper . Right now I am thinking about the "Carbon Copy" delay by MRX and the Boss RC3 looper

For me, the key thing to consider in a delay is the colour of the repeats. In some pedals these are full-spectrum and almost identical to the input. In others they are noticeably darker. Some pedals might do both.
Personally I like the darker ones. The softer sound tends not to fight for space with the main signal, adding a background ambient layer. The Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay is right up my street. Another neat feature some pedals have is modulation eg the Way Huge Supa Puss or the Strymon El Capistan (which can also function as a basic looper). If you plan to use the pedal for recording you might want stereo outs and maybe even a splitter so you can record wet & dry to separate channels for maximum control when you're mixing. The important thing is just to get a pedal and play though A volume pedal plus a long delay can produce some amazing, lush sounds. |

I tend to do tons of on line Youtube etc. research and have been doing that And understanding of course the sonically limited nature of Youtube, etc. I do however find it useful for basic comparison, and of course feature/function etc. comparisons. It is interesting (and we agree) that I also preferred the delay's that have a "softer" "darker" repeats which is why I was looking at the Carbon Copy" said to be darker and it also has the modulation feature a swell as being all analog. I will be recording but had not been particularly looking at recording the electric git. in stereo or with a lot of outboard effects (although it is not out of the realm of possibility and I will keep that in mind) I have an excellent DAW system with numerous FX and mind-boggling sonic possibilities.
