Default Pay Phone - last time you used one?

When was the last time you, or someone you know, used a pay phone? I really can't recall myself.

I think a better question is when was the last time that we've seen a pay phone....

Maybe around the time we got rid of our rotary phone for one of them new fangled, space age push button contraptions. Don’t miss the pay phones so much but I do miss real operator assistance.

Yea. I "think" I saw some in a mall but I haven't been to a mall in a couple of years.

I haven't seen the "new" Superman movies of the past 10 years but does he still use a phone booth?

The 1990s I'm sure. I remember using a red phone booth in London in '95 or '96 I think.

We still had a fully-functional, classic 1930's wooden NYC phone booth just inside the entrance of the school where my wife and I used to teach (updated to a pushbutton phone) - used it shortly before we retired in 2016, may still be there since the PTA used it as a direct incoming line...

Middle of NYC, July 2019 after I dropped and destroyed my cell phone. I needed to tell the people I was meeting that I'd be late.

Maybe I just have an eye for them but I can usually spot them out in major American cities.

I can't tell you... possible around 2003. I still see the spots on the walls where they've been removed. My company still has the nooks (but not the phones) that were elegantly built into buildings.

Last time I used a pay phone was around 1998. There was one in a city park for many years...noticed it was gone two years ago. I wonder if London, England, still has those red booths around the city?

There's a gas station near me where I put air in my tires.
A few feet away from the air pump is a coin operated telephone booth.
Usually being used by shady characters. I don't believe I've seen any others.

The last time I used one, I can't remember. There were two in the lobby of my high school, I know I called people to pick me up a few times, so mid-90's?

I remember the last time I saw a person use one. Would have been about 2000, was out with a few guys, and this one guy got a page (yes, a PAGER!) from his girlfriend, and he wanted to stop at a payphone to see what was up.

It took like 20 minutes of driving around to even find one.

I haven't used it but there is one outside the Meeker Park Lodge in Allenspark, CO, near where my wife's family has a cabin. No cell service in the area, so it is probably still used fairly often.

The day I met my wife, I called her on the way from Kansas to Texas as I did not have a cell phone, even in 2001! I called her from a Truck stop on the way to Texas. That was the last time. Oh, not to mislead, she was not my wife at the time and I had not yet seen her in person! You may surmise the rest! Too long of a story!

I remember it very well - it would have been February of '89. I was south of the river in Indianapolis. Pulled into town in the wee hours of a Sunday night to start attending a conference at IUPUI Monday morning.

I pulled off the exit and drove a few blocks until I spotted a pay phone, got out of my car and dialed the number for the hotel to get directions......as the phone was ringing I was noticing how many windows in view were boarded up and how run down the block was.

I had this sensation that someone was watching me, and when I turned around an old orange Chevy pickup with blacked out windows was very slowly pulling up to the stop sign a short distance from me.

The desk clerk answered at the same moment and the first thing I did was tell her who I was and what corner I was on, and if I wasn't there in about 20 minutes this is where they should look for me.

The truck sat there for what seemed like an eternity until I got back into my car and drove off.

One of those moments when you life could have changed drastically.
