For the record, I have nothing against the tasteful use of pearl nor did I ever mean to imply so. it's just not very interesting to me because I am all about building better guitars from the sound and playability perspective. I do not usually find pearl work sufficiently rewarding (except financially) to hold my attention. This is a personal thing, perhaps a deficit, but I get my reward from the tool itself. Somehow I have managed to complete at least five style 45 guitars, though, and quite a number of other highly embellished guitars including a successful collaboration with Larry Robinson. Exquisite refinement is my more usual path.

Working pearl into a stacked heel is a challenge I will leave to Harvey.
If that's what the customer wants... I'm here for them

I pride myself in being able to build any guitar completely in-house. Being able to build great sounding and great playing guitars while also being able to add just about any level of embellishment is where I get my greatest enjoyment... I too get great enjoyment from the tool... including a jeweler's saw

By tool, I meant the guitar as a music making tool.

Just for the benefit of anybody who may be a tad nonplussed by Bruce's reference to the alertness of the mods, there was a post earlier, ( since deleted,) which, possibly unintentionally, nonetheless appeared to have threatening overtones.

The mods very sensibly deleted the post, and have allowed the thread to continue.

...and I thought you were waxing poetic about the feel of the chisel as it slips effortlessly through the spruce braces, the elegant glint of light from the oil lantern in the corner as it reflects from the finely honed edge....

. . . the tiny teeth tearing the nacre in the howling maelstrom removing malevolent micro matter from meticulous masterwork. . .
