Hey, can anyone point me where to find these travel jars? I have searched every likely store in my city, to no avail. They don't have anything even close. No luck on the internet, either. Are those jars a UK thing?
Thanks!

I found them at Walmart. Bottom shelf in the hair products aisle. Would have missed them but my daughter saw them first, and the clear ones were hidden among the yellow, green, red, and blue ones.

They are all essentially identical silica gel beads and will behave identically. As said, the jars can be found in the travel section of walmart, a drugstore or bigger chain grocery stores.

I have my jars sitting out on the bookshelf with two different lots of beads. I check them daily. After one week they are all behaving themselves. I have one set of each in the following sealed jars jars with sponges and lids that have holes jars with no sponges but lid with holes jars with no lids So six jars, three with green beads and three with blue. All behaving It was about at the 10 day stage that they all went nuts last time Steve

Thanks, guys. I did check Walgreens, CVS and Target. No jars, just squeeze bottles. I'll check Walmart.

I used this method to humidify my closet. I threw the clothes away and made a rack for my guitars. Two trays filled with water beads gives the closet 45% humidity. At the moment, the room is at 30-35%.

Dry sponge
OK, so I made some of the sponge/bead humidifiers, put them in the cases and waited. When I opened the plastic holders their beads were about 80% of their fat soaked size but the sponges were bone dry. And yes the beads were touching the sponges.
What's up with that?

The first time I used the sponges. I do not know if it was because the house was cold during the day when I am at work and then in the evening warm, the beads gave up their water but the water did not evaporate, leaving me with a container of water and small beads over a 20 day period.
I then swapped to another make of beads and removed the sponges. After almost 2 weeks the beads are still holding some water but I don't have any water in the container. I have four in four cases and all are well so far. Room humidity is fluctuating between 37% and 47% over the last two weeks with a temp of between 45 and 75 degrees F. Hope this helps Steve

definately..............I have, this week, placed my dried out beads in water bottles ready for the drop in humidity. Only problem is I can't remember which of the two lots of beads worked for me last year.
I shall try both and see what happens Steve

So I am curious how these case style humidifiers regulate the humidity.
I understand when it is dry you can add water to the sponge or with the water gels it adds to the amount of time moisture is being added to the air. But is it ever a concern that too much moisture is being added inside the case. Wasn't sure how many of you have hygrometers in all your cases. Thanks |

Here in the dry season (winter and fireplace time) it's way too dry and over-humidifying isn't even possible.
