Default Rainsong factory action

Just curious how you guys would typically characterize the factory action I should expect on my new purchase?

It's high. If you are a strummer it may be a good thing. I'm a fingerstyle guy and dropped my action measured at the 12th fret to:

6th String .08, or 1/12 and,
1st String .05, or 1/20

That is super low but that is how I like it. My favorite part though? Once you get it where you want it will never move. The truss rod is just to fine tune your relief.

These guitars are set and forget. Period. I hope you follow up with a review once you get your CO-WS1000N2!

I think they shoot for 3/32" and 2/32", low/high E, 12th fret.

I think that's correct and it's similar to Taylor.

I've never measured my WS-1000 or messed with it, but I liked how it came to me from Elderly in 2001. It still has the original nut and saddle. Maybe they did some setup work on it? I cannot speak to more recent builds since my other RS was from 2005. But the newer ones I have played were all fine to me in the store.

I have played many a Taylor Grand Auditorium and they seemed just right for me. Hopefully this Rainsong GA is similar like you're suggesting. Save a little hassle...

I have no hard data, but mine was comfortable out of the box. I ultimately did end up lowering it a smidge when I changed out the nut and saddle for bone, but it wasn't for comfort, more to get the intonation as consistent as is reasonable.

I'm going to guess that is you have an acoustic background, it'll be fine (just a guess).

Absolutely. I have no experience at all with electric guitars. Only acoustic.

All of my Rainsongs were good out of the box (and basically in-tune when they arrived), but as some have said, they're shooting for action to fit slightly heavy-handed strumming, so there's some room to come down if you have a more delicate touch. If you're strumming chords, you'll find it pretty comfortable right away, as I did, with the light strings.

To the best of my knowledge, there's no such thing as a Rainsong GA. I thought that you'd ordered a WS....

My CH-OM was perfect for me out of the box.

That is probably what his dealer told him. RainSongs are very close in spec to Taylor body shapes

Taylor GA

body length- 20"

lower bout- 16"

depth - 4 5/8"

RainSong WS

body length -19.5"

lower bout - 15.8"

depth- 5'

I'll never forget asking what the "WS" meant for that model RainSong. "Weird Shape" was my favorite response

My Shorty was ok when new, but I did lower it a smidge a couple years later as I play mostly fingerstyle. The WS was and is exquisitely setup, straight from Rainsong. I hope yours is too.

According to RainSong directly it is considered to be their version of a "Grand Auditorium"...At least when we chatted on the phone...

Similar in size and what's being delivered for versatility. I understand it's not actually called that or whatever.

I hear ya. Signature updated ;-0. Long and Macquade spoke about the Rainsong I bought in those terms as well.
