This is super fun! I’ve been emailing Adam a bit, considering putting in an order for the Iris OG in their burst. Excited to follow this build and see how it turns out!

It seems like Iris has been picking up some more steam these days. Can’t wait to see more of them out in the hands of more musicians.

Yep, a one-off custom order in the 1930s.

OK, back to this thread: update pics, please!

You have kind of left us hanging. Have you received the guitar yet? I was recently in touch with Dale and from the address and phone number he sent me it looks like he has moved his shop to South Burlington VT.

Not yet, zw. Haven’t gotten any recent photos, probably because they have moved from one location in Burlington to another just recently. I have been in email contact with Adam and things are progressing.

You are correct about Dale moving to Burlington. They have all the different operations working out of the new space now (Fairbanks Guitars, Circle Strings, Iris and some other related businesses).

I’ll keep everyone posted!

Bayoubengal - several of us are on hold right now including you, Dave42, and myself. I can only assume that Adam and Dale are getting things set up in the new location before getting back to work. The anticipation is killing me! I sure hope they took good care of our babies during the move.

Best,

Rick

Rick—I got an email from Adam and he said there are two factors holding things up on the build:

1.) This is the first Iris Smeck so the neck is different from any of the other models (12 Frets, wider nut width) and being built for the first time.

2.) And yes, the move has been much more disruptive than anticipated.

This just came in from Adam. The neck is attached and they’re getting ready to spray the Burst!

The Roy Smeck Design is a very interesting variation. Gibson made it, only as a Hawiian never as a "Spanish" (or normal) guitar.

The body depth is 5" and the scale is short (24.75").

Jackson Browne started this craze (or was it Jerry Jeff Walker?) and I believe that JB worked with Macalister, to buold a guitar based on his original.

See : https://www.mcalisterguitars.com/htt...ckAlister.html

Gibson came out with the short lived Jackson Browne signature model, and have since introduced a short run actually called a Roy Smeck.

At its best this design exhibits a deep middle tonality that is Gibsonesque but fuller.
This is my Santa Cruz version
