Proud owner of a 2018 214ce-DLX.

I strongly recommend spending 200-400 more for the DLX because the gloss finish really does add a certain warmth compared to the non-DLX models I tried out. The guitar will also come with a beautiful hard case which you can probably sell for $200+ if you want to save the money.

I just got my first Taylor a brand new 214ce delux. I really like the sound of this guitar. Its right up there with my eastmans. The only con is the 1.68 nut width but so far its not too big of an inconvieance.

I think you should get it! I've been on my own quest as of the last few months looking for a new guitar. I settled on the Taylor GS mini recently because it suits my needs BUT every time I go to guitar center or even a local shop, if they have a Taylor 214, you can bet I pick it up and play it. The 214 dlx sb is actually next on my list for when I get a full body acoustic. I love the tone, the comfort, the aesthetics...in my opinion, the 214 can hold it's own with guitars that are 3-5x its price. And it's durable because of the layered back and sides, you don't have to freak out over humidity as much as you would with a solid wood guitar or even baby it too much. It has a decent pick up system in my opinion. I too love twang and bluesy notes and from what I've seen and what I've played, it can handle just about any playing style. It's just an all around work horse of an instrument.
TLDR: GET THAT GUITAR!!!

About a week ago, I bought a used 2014 114e Sunburst in excellent condition for $499. I really love the way this guitar sounds, plays and feels. When I was out shopping about a month ago, I was trying the Academy 12, the 114 and the 214. The Academy is a very nice guitar at it's price point $499 no electronics. The 114 was $799 and the 214 $999, both with electronics.

In playing the 114 and the 214, there was minimal if any sound difference to my ears. So I thought, for the 214 while it was nicer looking, you were paying for $200 for cosmetic upgrades. Just something to think about. Good luck!

That's a nice guitar no doubt but before you take the plunge you might want to check out the offerings from Blue Ridge, Eastman and the Guild Westerly Collection that offer all solid wood at a similar price. This is what I recently opted for in that price range.

Guild D140CE

Interesting! This past December I was about to buy a 214ce that I thought sounded really good, but then saw a 214ce-k DLX in the far corner of the shop. Picked it up and in one strum my eyes opened. Much warmer and fuller sounding. The DLX came home with me. I never considered that the gloss finish could have been the reason for the sound difference.

Those are made in China. If that matters to a guy (it does to me).

I would also add since you are in Europe you could easily get a sweet Furch in all solid wood, for that same price, and imho better quality control.

A similar thing happened to me. I was in the humidor at Guitar Center near Berklee in Boston and was trying out all the Taylors in my price range. When I started playing the DLX I was so impressed by the resonance that I could both hear and feel. As I sat on the fence about whether I could afford a $1400 guitar, a guy with a cane walked in and said something along the lines of, "Wow, that guitar sounds phenomenal. What model is it?" As I continued to noodle around he kept remarking about the sound. I joked around with him and asked if he was an under cover Guitar Center employee conning me into breaking out my wallet.

When GC told me they would honor my expired 15% coupon, there was no way I could leave the store without the guitar. I've played it almost every single day since.
