Fender makes great electric guitars at really reasonable prices, even their high end made in USA models are bargains compared to Gibsons (and if you believe the anecdotes the QC is better across the board), so there are going to be lots of people who want to try a Fender acoustic if they're just coming to Acoustic guitars with nothing but electric guitar playing under their belt and a strong like for the Fender they already have.
I love my Tele to death.. if it had been my first guitar and I wasn't the type to do a ton of online research I would have walked into a GC or something and tried Fenders acoustics first. Heck my Telecaster was the first guitar I bought that gave me a clue that the Acoustics I'd been trying to learn on weren't good enough.
