Default Sold Martin John Mellencamp 00-18S Slotted Carpathian Top and Quilted Mahogany

Sold please close thread.

To say this is rare would be an understatement. 1 of 26. Not a ton of information out there on these but it is a beautiful guitar and a joy to play with an amazing sound. This is the original Martin Authentic before they even existed. 12 fret slotted head stock, quilted mahogany back and sides with a Carpathian spruce top that really gives this guitar an amazing resonance. This really is a very unique Martin.

The Martin 00-18S John Mellencamp Custom Artist Edition is a beauty; understated yet handsome. That beauty begins with the solid tonewoods; back and sides of rare quilted mahogany for bright, clear tone, a top of Carpathian spruce, a tonewood from the mountains surrounding the Black Sea that combines the rich timbre of European spruce and the dynamic range of Adirondack spruce, and a neck of genuine mahogany. Scalloped 1/4Ē top braces provide superb responsiveness and balance.
Weighs 3 pounds 7 ounces. The neck is closer to a c shape and very comfortable. String spacing measures about 1 7/8Ē at the 12 fret.

Apparently John Mellencamp wanted his signature model to focus on the tone woods rather than the fancy inlays and bindings. He preferred they build a guitar that truly was like the authentic before it even existed.

Guitar is in amazing condition with some minor pic wear from the previous owner. Also has some finish cracking here and these as these had very thin coats of finish applied to them. But overall the guitar looks amazing. Neck is perfect and other than the minor pic wear it is dent and scratch free.

Only reason Iím looking to sell is that I donít play it because itís so pretty and I donít want to be the one to put a mark on it. I much prefer guitars with a little wear to them so I donít feel guilty dinging it up. And with a few other nice martins to chose from this one doesnít get time it deserves. Plus Iím always chasing something else it seems like.

This guitar sounds a lot like some of my pre was smaller bodied Martins. Incredible low end for the size and one of the best finger pickers I have ever played. Nice and dry on the high notes it has that authentic series Martin sound.

These were over 6k new without a case and this one comes with a very nice Martin/geib case. To my knowledge Martin hasnít made anything quite like this other than a custom shop order. This is the ultimate authentic pre war sounding post war built Martin I have ever played. Again, if I didnít have so many pre war martins to choose from I would probably be keeping this. Might be the only opportunity to own one of these. You will not be disappointed. Having owned many nice martins over the years this one is as spectacular sounding as any of them. Action is set up high as the original owner used it to strum I believe but there is a lot of saddle for adjustment and it can easily be lowered below spec.

Neck angle is perfect. When a straight edge is layed across the frets it can just slide across the top of the bridge.

Smile Specs would be nice

I canít read the article you posted, as the print is too fuzzy (and my eyes may be too old)

I expect many here would like your specs. And neck shape/carve, etc.

Sure is cute!

And, after reading that entire article twice, I still did not find a scale lengthÖ

Plus a lot of folks will want to know how the neck feels. I mean, is it a D, C, V?

Thanks and best on this

Paul
