I'm not rokdog, but I got fed up with it all and paid for a subscription to
WSJ. I don't hide from the teevee, but I haven't seen network or local

I don't feel like I get cooties by seeing the teevee in the motel lobby...

I hit the web page of a local radio station to read about local (county wide) news...

Or maybe a 10 year old’s ability to fat-shame a classmate to the world at the click of “send” signifies something.

An ironic quote when you think of Macbeth’s state of mind when he gives this little speech. And it’s also ironic in the Faulkner novel “Sound and Fury”, where the seemingly “idiotic” ramblings of a mentally handicapped character turn out to be very perceptive in fact.

You do realize fatties were also ridiculed mercilessly in school, on the bus, and at kids hangouts,, pre cell phone

Maybe a 10 old should not have a phone

Who said anything about Macbeth or Faulkner ? In the common vernacular it means more or less the same as much ado about nothing

Or are you suggesting the "cellphones are the downfall" crowd may be offering the perceptive ramblings of the mentally handicapped

Rode motorcycles for 55+ years - all kinds and sizes. But after more than a few close calls (all since 2000), I just sold my last one.

Despite strict defensive practices and my religious avoidance of blind spots, it was most often like I was invisible to car/truck drivers who cut me off (in various ways) like I wasn't even there.

Funny, though, not one of those pucker-inducing thrillers involved people reading newspapers behind the wheel.

Gubernatorial.

Who, in their right minds, would ever consider it a good idea to introduce such a butt-ugly word into the English language?!

You could likely have quite a conversation with my wife. Between personal and professional she's strong - native speaker certification - in 3 languages, knows 4, plus strong with grammar. Wow does she have the strong opinions on some words and sounds.

My today's vent is on how it seems too many can't operate or collaborate on matters outside of our comfort zones. Rigidity and hate on matters where that likely means half or a majority in the room are where that loathing or hate is aimed at.

Please keep this away from national or world politics. As much as there are parallels, it was some work projects and volunteering I do that have it in mind.

It seems like we need really big lessons in awareness of what our brains do subconsciously. We have to make goals for things we agree on and get them done. I work where there is a tremendous amount of respect in the workplace culture driven by the family owners the circle of execs. It feels like that has to be taught all over. A while ago I thought it silly when workplace and community culture were topics. Not so much anymore.

I'm always amazed to look at an OP then see where it ended up 11 pages later. The thread has strayed a bit from frustration with hose failure, well done!

It's my work. Language really does fascinate me, as it does your wife from what you say.

I’d suggest keeping away from clichés whenever trying to be perceptive.

Insert the cute emoticon of your choice here.

There’s plenty of research to indicate TikTok is extremely addictive. And was designed to be so.

More so than newspapers or magazines. And the target is children.

So there’s that.

Na replying in kind to a cliche is totally fair game it's an internet forum not a formal debating club
