Default The New guy at work

It's always good to welcome the "new guy" and especially when he apparently (its early yet) has the work skills that were absent in the last couple of tryouts. When the new guy though has no clue how to hold a conversation - wait until someone else finishes speaking, don't change the subject right back to themselves, ad nuaseum......

I've heard him ramble on to my co-worker about non-work subjects and not let her get a word in edgewise and not ask what is going on in her life. It's all about him.

I had a conversation with him yesterday about work stuff, great talk, lol, until I went to say something then I got cut off, so I just cut him off and ended the conversation.

I told my co-worker that I've worked with for over 30 years "as long as he can do the work, just grin and bear it...."

Barry,

I understand your frustration, I worked with a gentleman who did that for 20 plus years, however it could be worse. He could also be a banjo player

I have a close friend that’s like that. Everything is about him. In fact, months can go by without talking to each other, I might send him a text or two and no reply. But that one day something significant happens to him and he won’t shut up about it. Self-absorbed people are annoying.

- or your supervisor ; been there, and just "cutting him off and ending the conversation" clearly wasn't an option...

I’m sure the guy is a drag to be around.

I also imagine he is pretty lonely. Probably harder to be him than to be you....

Work is way over rated. It sucks.

I work in an R&D center with a bunch of masters / PhD scientists. None of us have good social skills so we cut each other a bit of slack.

Known many. Alpha male posturing on a fledgling's experience, a fresh degree, zero developed chops and satchels of bravado; long pants don't make the man. But, I give them all a fair shake. Self confidence is a good thing. Using it correctly is the key.

Only thing worse is hearing how the person you replaced did things, or personal stories about them.

My theory is that if work was such a great thing, the rich would have all of it and wouldn't let us have any.

j/k before I retired I always told myself that my job would look great if I had just been laid off. Helped me keep perspective.

I don't know, I think we can learn a lot from how folks did things.

I know what you mean. Most of the guys I work with it’s always, sing, sing sing. They never shut up. It’s “Baby I’m amazed at the way you love me all the time” and “Well, you done done me and you bet I felt it, I tried to be chill, but you're so hot that I melted, I fell right through the cracks, Now I'm trying to get back...” Can’t get a quiet minute to just play guitar.........
