Default Hana - Masaaki Kishibe cover

Hi all

This is my first YouTube video and first music shared here.

Please forgive some of the sync issues between sound and video - next one will be better :-)

Recorded into two AT2020 mics into a Zoom H5 and then imported into Auria on my IPad Pro for mixing and outputting.

Any feedback gratefully received..

Good job. I would use less reverb but it's similar to the amount Kishibe uses.

Wow. That was beautiful and calming. Hopefully you smile from time to time off camera.

Thought the audio sounded pretty darn good...good playing too. I'll sheepishly admit half the time I hear covers of this tune I cringe a little....its one of those songs you either get right or you don't.....this was very nice though. Im hoping whenever I decide to tackle this one it turns out right. Its such a nice song.

I think there's a calmness and gentleness to your playing here that really suits the piece. Great job.

Thanks Dustin - I had the same concerns when posting this as I have listened to a lot of attempts at this tune, some amazing and some less so...

I think I agree - I have overdone it a little now I listen back (but at the time it sounded right!)

Peter, how does your cedar 22 compare to your spruce 24? (Other than bling?)

Good question - and one which I ask myself on a regular basis!

The spruce was my first Furch and I loved it from the day I got it (having chosen it over a few cedar models) but I then stumbled across the cedar topped guitar cheaply on the second hand market and thought it was too good to pass on.

In all honesty I find myself reaching for the cedar guitar more often than the spruce when I am looking for a sweet and balanced tone for a fingerstyle tune (such as this one) - which is what I play almost exclusively.

I think that in this case the B&S wood also contributes, as this CM guitar sounds to my ears better than the the cedar / rosewood guitars I tried when buying the spruce - I feel the mahogany brings balance and dryness to the sweetness of the cedar.

The spruce is a newer guitar by 6 years and sounds louder (the guitar is much heavier too) and has a lot more bass and more resonance than the cedar - I like it very much and will often pick it up after having played the cedar for a few days and be wowed by the sound. The spruce also feels like a more expensive and better built guitar (gloss finish / more weight etc) but they share the same neck, but sound wise this does not reflect.

If asked to keep only one I would be very hard pressed to make a decision...

Thanks Peter. I'm hoping to get a Furch G23 CR/CW or CM this summer (I think they are called the Yellow Plus model now). I'm not sure what back and sides yet. I have more spruce/mahogany guitars than I need, lol. I'm leaning towards the cedar/walnut combo.

Good luck with that - I did play a G23 CR when I got mine and it was very nice. The walnut sounds like a good option - I have always fancied a Lowden I once saw in that combination...

Beautiful rendering, the sound is pretty good IMO, is that a Furch/Stonebridge?
