Fascinating. The part where he talks about a pathway in his brain suddenly being unlocked reminds me of what it's like to learn Travis picking, or presumably any fingerpicking with thumb and fingers operating independently, like the Tommy Emmanuel version of Day Tripper. I am trying to learn that song right now, and as I learned the intro, I could sense something in my brain changing. It's especially intriguing when it first begins to happen, like a space opening up or something, as maybe a new mini neural network forms.

...And then I get bored and move on to half-learning something else instead.

Yep. I know exactly what you mean. I was *EXACTLY* like that for the first 30+ years I played guitar. Honestly, the more in-depth thinking here on AGF is what changed my approach. It's interesting because I presume it was like "it's not the kill but the thrill of the chase" sort of thing happening in my brain.

I first saw this a couple of months ago.
What struck me most is how much quicker his son adapted to the bike.

It's sort of reassuring to know that one of the main reasons I will never be a guitar virtuoso or chess Grandmaster is down to my age*


* Of course inate lack of talent is also high on the list.

I also found it very interesting that once he mastered the reverse steer bike, he couldn't ride a regular bike but it came back to him so quickly. I would love to know if he was able to then switch back to the reverse steer bike just as quickly.
