Default One for my sweetie

Lynn has brought us to a new spot for the remainder of our stay in Hawai`i this year, a suburb of Kailua known as Enchanted Lake. The lake was originally a Hawaiian aquaculture pond they called Ka `Elepulu but that translates as "The Moist Blackness" which the developers apparently felt was lacking a bit in sales appeal (grin).

We're staying right on the lake and it's pretty nice:

I'm using the Baggs Lyric as the main source and mixing in the XY mics of the Zoom H6, propped up on the camera bag at my feet. Even at that distance the Zoom did a decent job of catching the sound of the OM-18V and as a bonus brought in a few bird calls and the shouts of the outrigger team.

Nice, Fran. Have enjoyed your slack key tunes from back in RMMGA and 13th Fret days - narcotic.

That Zoom H6 almost takes the fun out of recording, it's too easy! And the Baggs Lyric helps a lot in a noisy or windy situation. Being able to catch two mics and a pickup in a little box like the H6 or H5 really makes "look at me play guitar" recording a matter of pushing a couple of buttons.

Thanks very much, and thanks for triggering a nice nostalgia rush. I still check RMMGA about once a month but I haven't seen 13th Fret in a long time.

Around here the drink of choice is a good California sparkler, I think it was Mumm Reserve that day.

The trade winds, now that's something to talk about. The breeze here is like breathing dessert it's so sweet.

And the Zoom recorder really is a wonder, especially with the Lyric as a source. A touch of the miked sound brings in the ambience and some stereo spread while the DI adds weight and articulation. I shudder to think of how much gear that would take before these little handheld recorders came along.
